I am new with my dream car ready to restore!

Hello everyone at thirdgen.org just wanted to say hi to everyone and to say i am glad to be a part of this awesome community. Well enough of the chit chat i wanna show you all my first project.
1992 rs camaro 3.1L v6 (i know sorta weak but gotta keep my parents insurance down lol).
5speed manual transmission.
The camaro has been taken care of mechanically very well i even got to drive it home from where i bought it with out any problems what so ever.
but cosmetic wise its a little ruff but not that big of a deal.
Right now it looks like this
But thanks to this beutifull website i found my inspiration. =)
i want to paint my car exactly as the picture shows, i really like it how it is, and i wanna put these rims with the new paint job(my camaro didnt come with original rims, just some crappy ones)

This is where am starting off in my project, with the paint and wheels, what do you guys think? I would love some feed back from this wounderful community that i really respect how they keep the third gen spirit going =)

----------
I am sorry if i posted in the wrong area i see this isnt where this is suppose to be sorry about that like i said am very new at this.

Re: I am new with my dream car ready to restore!

Welcome, this is a great site with an incredible amount of quality info. Your Third Gen looks great. Good luck with your upcoming mods. Use the search function and advanced search as much as possible before posting and you will find people more likely to help you with answers. Buy the best tools you can and keep all your fluids up and changed regularly. Even though you think your V-6 is weak, keep the motor clean and tuned up. Plan on spending a little time each weekend on maintenace and you wont break down. Do as much of your own work as possible and plan on making mistakes, breaking parts and bruising up your knuckles - but you will learn an incredible amount and will be all the better for your efforts. All and all its a great start!

that is so true, man if my knuckles could talk!

seriously though, on top of the already given advice, get on ebay or something, maybe someone here has one, and get the FACTORY service manual for your car. Personally, I have been there/done that with the Chilton's and Hayne's books, and neither one compares to the factory service manual. It has diagrams, diagnostic charts for EVERYTHING, organized and easy-to-read wiring diagrams, exploded diagram of darn near anything on the car that has more than 1 piece...you will not regret dropping a little more $$$ that a Haynes or Chilton's for one of these books.

Re: I am new with my dream car ready to restore!

I agree. I haven't had to do anything mechanical yet (except the intake manifold (and I wasn't touching that with virgin hands )), but I've done a lot of the interior work and the Factory service manual is SOOOOO helpful for that stuff!

She's not a Camaro, but she's a Third Gen 'bird and she's MINE!

Re: I am new with my dream car ready to restore!

Congrats on your Camaro. Looks like you have a great starting point. I've had a few V-6/5-speed combos and for gas mileage and reliability, they can't be beat. With regular maintenance, 450,000 km is no problem!!

Visit the V-6 tech boards as well and that can give you some ideas on waking up the V-6 until you do your V-8 swap.

Re: I am new with my dream car ready to restore!

Yes thank you all but the funny thing is my dad own a mechanic/body shop and i have been working there for quite some time now. So its easy for me to get expert help on anything i need =). Right now my Camaro is all gutted out ready to get sanded for paint. its gonna be a lot of work since i am completely changing the color of my car from red to white so i got to paint every detail so that there wont be any red showing. But i cant wait to see my camaro done its gonna be worth all the work i put into it!!
Thanks everyone for the welcome and glad to be part of this community =)

Re: I am new with my dream car ready to restore!

One word of advice that I've gotten from every body shop...don't put anything in the car that's meant to go on the finished interior. The risk of over-spray getting on finished parts is possible. I've got a new dash to go in, but not til the car's painted...so I'm currently dashless...

Re: I am new with my dream car ready to restore!

Take MASKING tape, and start laying them out, take careful measurements.

There is a rule of thirds... Personally I prefer the stripes on the Heritage cars, very similar to what you have in the White/Blue car pic, but I think they look nicer, your car being a 1992 could have had the Heritage stripes from the factory, so it would not be incorrect.

Re: I am new with my dream car ready to restore!

looks just like the one pictured lol

2 things I would have done differently but they're just preference:
1. continued the stripes onto the bumper cover
2. widened the stripes a little bit
either way it still looks great, blue and white are nice together.

Re: I am new with my dream car ready to restore!

thank you.
yeah i know what your talking about putting the stripes all the way down to the bumper you dont know how long i sat there staring at it to see if i would make the stripe all the way or not, but at the end i after much thought i liked it better with the stripe ending on the hood than all the way down... i guess thats just me lol
