87 IROC auto shift indicator?

I noticed that my 87 IROC auto shift illuminates at night in the center console. However there doesn't seem to be an indicator to let you know what gear you are in. Should there be one?

This style of indicator doesn't have that, the 88-92's do.

Interesting. What would it take to get a different set up to have an indicator in place? Would an 88 - 92 work in place? Would that mean the center console shift plate would have to be replaced with a later year?

Yes,you would have to replace the shift plate with one from an 88-92 camaro.88 and 89 will have a white strip inside while the 90-92 will have a yellow strip inside
