I didn't think the Gov-loc type was ever used in a third gen, just the pickups?

Apparently, in the early years--"perhaps" 82-84, the gov lock, a type of limited slip, was used. A search will no doubt provide more info, should you be interested.

Or "gov-bomb". Not all of them blow up though, the unit in my '91 S-10 has not grenaded yet and it's pushing 200K.

They can't take a beating. A friend of mine had one in a 78 chevrolet truck lets just say when it came apart he went sideways in an intersection as it slid to a stop. It then broke free. and chiped a tooth on the ring gear.

My parts catalog shows 82 & 83 has a cone type LSD that it refers to as "Borg Warner". 84 & later has a traditional clutch plate LSD that it calls "Eaton". I always thought the cone type was crappier, I've occasionally been able to defeat mine & the right rear goes up in smoke.
