Congrats on your ride!

The LB8 2.8L V6 was available on both the Sport Coupe and the Berlinetta (it's base engine). So going only by the engine, you can't determine 100% that's it's a Berlinetta.

An easier and simpler way to determine if you have a Berlinetta is that it was the only model to have the futuristic electronic instrumentation (digital gauges, automated radio controls, etc). Got that and you have a Berlinetta. If you have regular analogue gauges, then it's the base Sport Coupe.

There are a great number of variables that play here.
- What is your budget? A good basic paint can easily run inot more $$$ than the car is valued at.
- Body condition. Depending on how much work the body needs and how well you have it prepped (patching holes, cutting out rust, replacing with metal or bondo short-cuts, straightening parts, etc, etc) can equate to as much or more than just the paint job.
- The kind of shop you take it to. A speciality shop or a typical fender-bender fixer-upper place.
- Removing trim and accessories before painting or just masking around stuff.
There are even many more factors that play into it. I'd definitly get a few estimates (at least half a dozen) as to what it would cost depending on how much detail and quality you want or can afford.
Ask around for references. Talk to people at car shows what they've had done, where they had it done, how much $$$.

Prices can range from as low as $500 for a quick cheap Maaco type job that will look OK from a distance and will likley need to be redone in a few years to easily $4000-$5000+ for a good quality restoration.

Any pictures?

PS; A good idea for better replies to your question would be to post it as a new topic here or under our Auto Detailing and Appearance board.

Right now we're under the topic title of "is it a berlinetta?? 86'", which has nothing to do with paint jobs.

Re: is it a berlinetta?? 86'

the 2.8 motor is peace of crap you dont save any gas i have 88 firebird with a 2.8 and my v8 camaro gets about the same gas i think the 2.8 gets like maybe 2 miles more then the v8 the base camaro where mass produced as well compared to Berlinetta now days thers less and less berlintta witch mean they will be rare conpaird to z28 or iroc so guess what that car price will go up more then the rest and since it was onley made in the 80s for a short run it will be hard to find parts but a lot of z28 parts fit the berlinetta the onley true difrence is the dital gage and pod and the rims body sysle the same hood the same motor the same less you got the very rare 5.7 so if you really want to you can slap z28 stickers on it and change a few thing to make it a z28 if you want lol but your tittle still will say berlinetta
