Chime Module

I have an 86 Trans Am and wanted to know if there is supposed be a chime/buzzer when the headlights are left on and key taken out of the ignition. (door opened)

The "chime" does function when the key is left in the ignition and the door is opened. (headlights off)

I just need to know if the 86 was built with a headlight chime before i try to chase a problem.

Thanks guys.

Re: Chime Module

My 85 Camaro does this if the lights are left on, but the "chime" is so soft you almost can't hear it. I haven't chased this down yet, but I wonder whether it's part of the seat belt light that seems to have been disconnected at some point in the past. I think that the chime is the same for both of these events.

Re: Chime Module

Ok. So, there should be something making noise when the lights are left on. I just had to make sure. Thanks.

Re: Chime Module

There's a module under the dash that is fairly inexpensive and "buzzes" when the lights are left on and the door opens. The module is under the steering column somewhere.

Re: Chime Module

As ScottM mentioned it's a module located in the convience center under the dash. Remove the driver's side hush panel and look to the right of the steering column. The chime module is located there along with flasher unit and choke relay if a carb car. It chimes for the lights on,seat belt and key in switch. The one thing I can't tell you for certain is where to get one - I lucked out on one in a salvage yard that works.

EDIT: Now all of this pertains to the Camaro but I don't see Firevirds being different in this area.
