That car in the picture is the same car i own now. toooo wierd ! in reading previous entries it asks what it says on the lower doors, it reads, "daytona 500 feb 14 " the whole door reads like this top to bottem... official pace care - 1st line, pontiac trans am - 2nd line, daytona 500 feb.14 - 3rd line.
Re: 1982 T/A red official pace car w/ white letters,
Are you the one selling this car? It looks like an interesting piece of History. It is really too bad it is missing so many of it parts.
Re: 1982 T/A red official pace car w/ white letters,
Don't quote me on it but I think there where only a few hundret of them. But I think except for the lettering on them they didn't have anything more then you could get in a "regular" TA.
Re: 1982 T/A red official pace car w/ white letters,
So far in researching, I am told that this is one of one or two that said Daytona 500 Feb 14, up to 10 others "possibly" said other track names and dates and all were "event" used for publicity of new body style. These were not made for public, they ended up in public after use and removal of the 5.7's that were put in them for the track as they were supposed to have the 5.0. None others known of that I can find.

It's an interesting piece of history for sure. Let me know when you decide how much you want for it... I am kinda of interested.

Well, it is not in good shape, but I can take some pictures for you. All of the white lettering is gone, however in the right light you can see it faded into the paint. The PONTIAC is also faded into the windsheild, but appears to be long gone. The NASCAR stickers on the back are still there but in sad shape.
Re: 1982 T/A red official pace car w/ white letters,
I remember these cars. Back in 1984 I bought a brand new 84 trans am in minnesota. At the same time there was one of these pace cars it was red/black same nascar stickers on it. However if memory serves me right on the doors it said something to do with official pace car brainerd international speedway.
Re: 1982 T/A red official pace car w/ white letters,
Brainerd International Speedway, huh? I didn't think they hosted a NASCAR race.
Anyway, this (as far as every sign has pointed) is a Daytona 500 Pacecar.

That would explain it. We don't have ARCA racing out here, we have the Winston West series, which is the local arm of NASCAR.

Re: 1982 T/A red official pace car w/ white letters,
Ok,
My point, more or less was that "NASCAR" is more than just now "Nationwide" and "Sprint Cup" and "Piston Cup"
They may have used the logo on a car at an obscure race track. I remember seeing an ARCA race in Dayton (Kilkare), for example... I do not remember a special Pace car, but that was back in 1996 ish time frame.
The Piston Cup is by far my favorite. "All I see is a bunch of empty cups" - Doc Hudson.

I think the quote was actually "You did what in your cup?"

Re: 1982 T/A red official pace car w/ white letters,
I was watching a NASCAR show on TV last night and they showed a spectator steal the red Trans AM pace car in 1986 and start to drive around the speedway with it.
The track trucks blocked the track and the police ran over and pulled the guy out by his hair.
It was pretty funny. The guys on the show had a good laugh,it was pretty crazy.
