Re: Inflateable Space Saver HELP

I don't believe they're available any longer, which is unfortunate. Personally, I would be apprehensive about using a 20+ year old spare. I keep a can of Inflate It (or some such product) in the car.

The following is an interesting link. Note posts 19, 20 and 21 concerning the fourthgen spare:

I just crashed a bit ago and had to use mine. Worked great! Had the car sitting on the spare in my garage for a couple weeks before it went flat. Would love to replace it aswell as the bottle of air it came with!

If a fair offer is made, I might be inclined to part with mine.

Re: Inflateable Space Saver HELP

you know whats hard about looking for a new one, is mine look 100% fine deflated, i decided to pump it up with shop air just to make sure it was ok, and thats when you could see the sidewall wrinkles, and the tread started coming apart

That's why I simply wouldn't trust a 20+ spare on the side of the road.

yea but what else to do on the side of the road, its late, and you sure dont want some idiot to drag it up on a roll back and drag your front end on it

you got to have that full hight spair with a LSD, only other option is to put the pizza cutter on the front and move your front on the back

come on james your full of good ideas normaly, or smart*** stuff about tom's age

I've never been forced to use it, but as I mention above, I carry a can of "Inflate It" to avoid the whole business.

Oh, may we all live to be as spunky as Uncle at that age .

Re: Inflateable Space Saver HELP

AAA. It's a small charge once a year, and if you have to get your car towed once it'll pay for itself. Not to mention the road side service, discounts, and more. It's definitely worth it. Then you can leave your stock inflatable spare tucked away in it's storage space.

I've used a spare tire once in the last 15 years. I've got an extra 16" tire that holds air and has some tread that I throw in the back on long road trips. Along with AAA it's more then enough insurance. Much better then trusting a 20 year old folded rubber tire to not only inflate, but then also hold air and survive the temps of being run on the road. Not to mention you're not wearing a nearly impossible to replace tire, or discharging the inflator can that can be hard to get refilled.
