Really need some advice.

I am in the process of rebuilding my Z. I have only torn the interior out and started pulling the engine out. A friend of my brother wants to buy it from me for 1500.00 . I know a guy that wants to get rid of his 76' trans am for the same price and it needs the same amount of work as mine. My question is, if confronted with the same choice what would you choose? If this is not the right place for this please move it. I think the t/a has more potential to be worth more but i don't know. Any insight wouldbe greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Re: Really need some advice.

If the two cars were both in mint condition, exactly the way you'd want them, and you had to choose, which would you pick?

Personally, I'd probably go with the Z... Second gens are laid out poorly. I think the novelty of the older car would get old.

I would do the same thing to the t/a as I planned to do to the camaro. Ls swap, update paint, and suspension. I've just always wanted my own smokey and the bandit car. Plus my wife said I can only have one project at a time so I have to pick one.

I'd have to agree with this statement since I have owned/own a 70 Z28, a 72 RS and a 77 Z28. The rear quarters are a bad spot as well as the rear lower section of the front fender. Also the rear frame rails where the front portion of the leaf springs bolt up to the bend where it goes over the wheel has a problem of rotting out. Unless the frame is 100% I would pass on the 76. If the frame was good and everything else is identical condition wise I'd go for the 76.

Re: Really need some advice.

i can tell you one thing from owning a few 2nd gens, a 3rd gen and a 2nd gen needing the same kind of work doesnt mean its the same kind of money, 2nd gens are wayyy more expensive to fix then a 3rd gen. 3rd gen parts are more abundant than 2nd gens and when you run into certain hard to find parts, they are gonna cost you a paycheck or 2. just my 2 cents from owning 1st-3rd gens.

Just a note, the 76 is not a Smokey and the Bandit Car. Those are 77-78.

The 76 looks significantly different, at least to me.

Re: Really need some advice.

Thanks for the advice. I have decided to pass on the T/A. But I have also decide to sell the Z. My brother has a friend with him in Iraq who really wants my car. I've got another baby on the way. The camaro would be sitting for a while anyways so I'm just going to sell it and buy another one when my schedule and budget is more freed up. I have been on this site for a long time and really appreciate all the help i have gotten from everyone on here.

Time to tell the wife to get in the kitchen and stay there! You can have as many projects as you'd like. Vehicle projects build fabrication skills, mechanical/electrical skills, motivation..........as opposed to shopping which is nothing more than spending your hard-earned money on bullshit. Just sayin....

Go with the Z
