Are Third Gens Rare?

People are always asking about rare 3rd Gens, which brings up a good point. No, our cars are not "rare" when compared to a Yenko Camaro or SD 455 T/A, but in terms of how often you see a nice one, yes, they are rare. Our cars are now at the age that all most of the POS's have been junked or parted out, etc. and very few road worthy ones are left. For example, I have had my 1992 Firebird for 12 years and have attended many shows, including STARS (4 years), which is nothing but Birds, TA's, and Formulas, and I have NEVER seen a twin of my car in person. And, have only seen a couple of twins online, for sale, etc. I get comments all the time about how long it's been since the person has seen a nice 3rd gen, so even others are noticing it. The prices are slowly coming up due to this, and even some crazy auction prices, so yes, our cars are becoming rare and will be worth decent money in years to come. This is just my opinion, curious to see what others think.

Re: Are Third Gens Rare?

3rd gens are common enough but this being the midwest "nice" 3rd gens are rare.

The nicest I ever saw shortly after buying mine was my former boss' anaversary TTA with just 300 miles on it, supposedly still had the original tank of gas in it!

Theres a 91-92 bird at the appartments behind the shop I work at now, it has been rear ended on the drivers side recently and shows some wear and tear.

I almost traded my TA for a 305 formula near my parrents house, it was rust free with a scrunched nose and drivability issues, i thought it would be easier than the rot on my car.

Saw a 3rd gen maro at a local show, it was nicely worked over but still had rot in the engine bay.

A lot near the airport that sells very crappy cars has an 84 formula 305 and a V6 camaro, no idea what the actual condition is but they both cost a grand more than my 350TA. The same lot had a blue on blue TA in ok condition a few years ago.

An online car lot has a beautiful silver formula and a private seller has an even sexier black GTA with nearly 200,000 miles on it. No idea what the floors/rockers look like though.

A neighbor has a 3rd gen under a tarp but it's never been out, cant even say if it's a bird or camaro.

Theres a white formula in the neighborhood that has severe rot all over and a primered camaro that putts around too and a red RS that things he's hot **** and tried to run my Mazda lol.

That about covers it around here lol.

Re: Are Third Gens Rare?

This topic has been beaten to death so many times. Sorry guys, but I need to close this. There is a sticky at the top of the page that mentions rare 3rd gens. This is the History/Restoration forum and opinions of what is "rare" could lead to a long thread about really nothing.
