What do you find is the best repair/restore manual?
I have Hayes for my other vehicles but I heard chilton was good. I would like to get other peoples opinion and see if there is any thing else out there that would help me with my 85 camaro.

Factory service manual for 1985.
I have a Haynes manual as well, and to me it just doesn't measure up. The Haynes manual crams 10 years worth of a Camaro in a book thats only a 1/3 of the size of my 1990 only service manual.
Things changed through the years, and sometimes the Haynes book didn't show it.

I have had Haynes manuals and a Clymer or two for my cars. They help a lot, but I think Chilton is better... that said, there is NO substitute for a year-and-model-specific shop manual.

Agree.....Nothing better than the good old GM Service Manual. Its a wealth of knowledge

I was helping to install an engine in a Ford truck last week and the Haynes manual didn't even give the torque specs for the spark plugs!!! The manual said to refer to the factory manual for the year of the truck. I'll stick with the factory service manual.

I find an assembly manual to be just as handy (but in different ways) than a service manual. you'll have to get one for an 86, but almost all the information will be the same.
It's not instead of a service manual, it's in addition to it

As others have said, the factory manual (or Helm manual) is by far the best. There's also another resource, and that's the factory assembly drawings. These are available as an "assembly manual" at swap meets. It's a fairly disorganized pile of poorly photocopied factory drawings, but there are some very useful diagrams.
