Just Bought '89 IROC-Z
Hello All,
New to Board, My first restore project thought I'd show what I got, '89 IROC-Z 350 TPI FE2, L98, J65, options plus many more.Tranny will shift through P-N-R-OD-D-2-1 but wont shift into third on the go (may have somethin to do with the fact there's NO friggin fluid in it LOL) gonna pull pan change gasket and put a new filter in it go from there. Motor runs great aint leakin oil at all, has a small header leak (idiot flat bed driver did it takin' it off truck when I had her hauled home). The power options in the car all still work, i.e. seat, windows, locks, interior lights over head and mirror, rear hatch. Hell the radio antenna still goes up and down when i turn on radio (after market) needs a dash maybe I'll cap it. Drivers seat cushin needs work lots of other odds and ends like speedo odometer and water temp dont work, tach works (hmmmm, intresting) numbers match ,....paid $1500

Yeah the windshield channel and ofcourse around the T-tops there are some spots. Just gotta get the tranny fixed so its easier to move around and I can get her to the base auto hobby shop and get some of the work started. Not payin for a tow once a week.

Nice car and great deal. You've got one heck of a starting point at that price. It shouldn't take too much work to have a nearly mint example of an IROC. I'm jealous!

Re: Just Bought '89 IROC-Z
Yeah I stole it really kid was going to boot camp the next week. Kind of Ironic, really, when I went to boot in '96 my mom sold my '79 Z-28 right out from under me while I was there, came home after 3 months for leave , no wheels. Said it was "leaking oil in the yard so it had to go" 800 bucks... anyway not an officinado on some of this stuff but I'm learning fast. Anybody wanna help me identify these T-tops they are lexan my door key dont work on them, so I know they've been replaced, or they are C&C dunno wich wanna buy some glass replacements from Hawk's but not sure wich to buy If you look at hawk's site they ask if pens are pencil sized or thumb sized, not really sure what that means either .Any help would be great.

taking a look at your second pic, second post you have the standard GM style. i "think" the C&C version was used on the 91-92 cars but that i cant be sure of but i do know yours is standard GM. the lexan version are VERY light and will look and feel nothing like glass tops.
as for keys, find a car that has the key and get the door locks, hatch lock, hatch storage and top locks. i did this for myt 83 T/A but being its a HT i didnt have to fool with the top locks.

"Close" the t-top when it is off the car and look at the size of the pin that slides out. Is it about the size of a pen or your thumb?

Re: Just Bought '89 IROC-Z
Well got alot of the wiring straight in the engine new fan harness (it was mangled wrapped around sway bar). Got the vacume lines as good as i can gonna need a mech to look at it .Throttle body and plenum pulled cleaned coolant plate replaced and hoses routed correct.New gaskets and bolt kit from the runners up found a new distributer cover cheap got some glass T-tops .New EGR Valve. Sanded and straightened out battery pan got the right battery (replaced the one for a submarine that was in there) and a battery wedge. Refurbed the gauge cluster getting wheel rewrapped. Hunted all over for the horn pigtail found it in the hatch storage; go figure, so Im buying horn and dash cap next week. Removed door panels and cleaned and greased the power locks so they actually pull locked now. Windows cleaned and lubed too still kinda slow but a hell of a lot better then they were think i just need new window sweeps that arent rotten. idles like crap but from what Ive read since I had it pulled apart the IAC and the TPS need to be reset so I'll get that done when they tow her off for a new exhaust ( has two bad leaks) and new Tranny this January.I'll just keep tinkering till then. still have to pull the weather stripping ,replace the T-Top bar, prep her for paint and figure out what Im gonna do about the tiny patch of cancer on the windshield channel although the windshield's coming' out anyway its cracked
