Wood grain dash on an IROC???
Have you ever heard of such a thing??
It looks original to me...but you never know.....
I am attempting a restoration on a 1986 IROC-Z, and it has wood grain dash panels and ashtray lid. Was this an option, or should I go back to original? It is a light oak color, and really looks strange with a black/blue interior.
Thanks!!

I suggest the wood paneling was an after market kit. The ones I seen, IMO, don't suit our cars.

I agree!!! It does NOT match the interior!! It stands out like a sore thumb. Especially since it is a light oak and the interior is black/blue!!
I wanted to try to stay original in the restoration, but I guess it was just a dealer option and I will go back to black.....
Thanks all!

It's an aftermarket add on. A few aftermarket conversions included the wood dash kits, but it was a Ebay option, and sold by JCWhitney and other dealers for years.

A had a friend in high school with an 84 Z28 he had the a silver trim dash with some woodgrain, and woodgrain in the console around the window buttons and shifter. I always wondered if that was stock or not, because if it wasnt the person before him took out the all the console panels, and put the goodgrain in place.

They didn't come factory with wood grain, but I remember it being really popular at onetime. And if you look around now, many sports cars have the wood grain. I have seen some that look horrible tho, depending on what style of wood grain? Mine is actually a dark cherry wood. Its really a hit or miss, some like it and some just hate it! HAHAHA

That aftermarket trim kit was very popular here in Canada. Owners that drove their Camaro during the harsh Canadian winters often got stuck and burned the wood to keep warm. The stores were always sold out.

It was a very popular kit back in the day, even Sears sold them.
For the most part, I never really liked them. But, I did have a '92 RS that was teal with the black standard interior and woodgrain kit. I thought it looked great in that car. It also had the black wooly seat covers, lol. Man that was cozy in the winter!

Re: Wood grain dash on an IROC???
If the cars with the wood dash have a sunroof it may be a ZF. From abouts 83 - 85 or 86 ASC offered through Dealerships a ZF option on the Camaro that included a woodgrain dash and a Sunroof...
I am not sure what years the ZF was offered, but I have not seen any after 1985 or 1982's, many 1984's if memory serves.
