Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
I got out in the garage and started getting the dash side of the wiring done. I decided to mount a whole new fuse box for the LT1. This way I dont have to worry about putting too great of a load on any pre-existing ckt. Plus I have room for expansion if I need it and I did away with C207.
I used part of a fuse box from a junkyard GM FWD car to make a bracket for the new fuse panel and it slides right onto the back of the factory fuse box and locks in place. Then I ran a key power wire with a fusible link to supply power to it.

Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
I got most of the under dash wiring done, all the fuses are done, the OBDII port is done, the T56 reverse lock out is wired up, the brake lights are good, back up lights wired up, and the check engine light is hooked up. All I have left is running the gauge wires from the LT1 and hooking up the nuteral safety switch.
I also mocked up the cold air intake and had my daughter paint it. I used sewer pipe which is thinner wall and when assembled make a very smooth turn. I smoothed the short side but the rest of it was very smooth with no transition bumps. I still need to fab up the heat shield for it. Should sound pretty sweet!

Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
supr_fly03, why dont come over to this thread I started to list the LTx and LSx swaps? This would be great swap to add to the list.
If you would be willing to add your thread just come paste a link to your swap in a reply on this thread; https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ltx-swaps.html.
We need some more LTx swaps on the list.

Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
So, here are the newest developments. I have finished the LT1/T56 swap. I also swapped out the 3.23 gears for some 4.10's. Finally got the T-top weatherstripping in, door weather stripping, and got the interior put back together. Car runs great and is super quick. Here are some pics. I will continue to post up stuff as I get more done.

Noticed you have an AC blower motor. If you're not planning on keeping AC you should remove that, or if you plan on keeping the fan (which I would suggest keeping), you can get a standard non-ac heater blower motor. Less weight, less space in the engine bay, and looks much cleaner.

I am keeping the AC. Sucks on hot days in the rain without it! I just need to get the cash together for the hoses and stuff.

Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
SO, for all of those looking for an update....
I now have completed my brake upgrade. It is an LS1 unit with fancy looking rotors and crappy pads. I will have to upgrade the pads some time soon. It stops much better, the brakes inspire confidence now.
I also mounted my new-to-me crosslace wheels. Some guy traded me my old polished 15" rims and tires for these strait up. He even gave me his brand new transam center caps. The tires need to be replaced, but I can get a few miles out of them before that.
I also rattle canned the front of my car to hid the ugle better and sprayed some black in there. I will take pics tomorrow. Looks sweet now.
I am still working out a few odd and end things. The AC is my next priority and will get done as soon as I get some lines from Firebat.

Crazy part is I sold my Saturn Ion and it's 32mpg in the city and I daily drive this thing. I guess 18 mpg city with a bad tune aint too bad.

I noticed you have the same mark as me in the top left part of the pic, in the wheelwell. Your tire at some point rubbed on the inside of that wheel well causing that mark, just like mine. What size wheels and tires did you have before? I thought it was only my car that did that?

Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
Both sets of my wheels, 15x7 eagle wheels with 235/60/15's and 16x8 crosslace wheels with 245/50/16's, rub in that spot. When the wheel is cranked it actually stops the car so it hits pretty good. The 16's definately rub harder and hit on the backside a little as well.
I am not too worried about it cause it handles like a slot car and stays flat in the corners.

Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
LOL im glad i'm not the only one. It appears these cars just weren't given enough space in the wheel wells for even stock width tires. I have 245/50/16 standard iroc size tires and I have the same rubbing. I'm not sure if it rubs anymore because of my new steering box with new internal stops, but it definitely rubs on something.

Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
I am just happy to be driving it. This thing is a beast! I love driving it around. The $3.65 per gal for 93 is worth it. All I need to do is get some GM T-Top weatherstripping cause OER sucks, and finish puttingthe AC together.

Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
i bought the GM t-top weatherstripping kit and it hasn't been installed yet as I'll be doing that after the car gets painted. It looks to be very high quality. The stripping on my car now is not leaking except in one spot (by the window corner where it contact the t-top). But some parts look worn out and faded.

I have not been on here in a while and I just sat here and read your whole post. I really enjoyed it and hope you don't mind if I start keeping up with it. Keep up the awesome work and I might have to use a few of your idea's on my '89 IROC. Thanks again for the great read.

I need soft and plyable. The OER stuff is rock hard, I have even tried shaving it to make it thinner and cutting slits into it to make it more flexible. I still cant roll up the windows with the doors closed, the drivers is the worst, it just pushes the window out of the "pocket" and dosent seal anywhere.

Re: My old high school car back after 15 years!
I'll check tonight and take a vid. I have the t-top outer drip rail hard plastic piece installed. But the rest is not. That outer drip rail is solid hard plastic. I'll check the rest tonight.
