Formula production numbers?

I'm looking at a 91 Formula that I may be picking up this weekend. Just curious, does anyone have production numbers on the 91 Formula? Most specifically, how many came with the L03, LB9 and L98?

Thanks!

Re: Formula production numbers?

All are slightly off, chances are less than 1% or 2%, but a general idea of proportions
L98/A4 - 1,127
LB9/M5 - 667
LB9/A4 - 1113
L03/M5 - 282
L03/A4 - 2153
TOTAL - 5464

I show a total production of 5497, so its really close to being complete.

Thanks, John - I'm looking at a Formula w/ L98 this weekend - Looks like its fairly 'rare'.

Re: Formula production numbers?

You can say that about almost any 90-92 Firebird with TPI.

True enough, I suppose.

Hopefully all goes well with the car on Saturday. I've only seen pics but the owner tells me its an unmolested L98, WS6 car. I'm not wild about the Firebirds, especially the base/Formulas w/o the ground effects, but who knows, maybe after owning one, that will change. I'm primarily getting the car as a test fit car for the hoods that we'll be making.

I'd really LOVE a GTA, but this will do; for now!

Re: Formula production numbers?

91-92 Formulas are bad ***... The same year's ground effects are terribly hokey and absolutely garbage for durability. They grow on you fast.

Re: Formula production numbers?

If the car is well taken care of, and you compare it to a similar GTA, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. There were articles back in the day that said that the Formula was the most fun to drive.

Re: Formula production numbers?

My 91 Formy is way more fun to drive then my 91 GTA... course it isn't a fair comparison as the GTA is an Auto and 2.73s and the Formula has a 5-speed, dual cats, and 3.42s.

Re: Formula production numbers?

Yeah, but that's kind of the thing about Formulas... In general they're loaded to the teeth with the stock performance parts. Just stay away from TBI and 305/auto's.

Re: Formula production numbers?

Yes, the Formulas were about 200# lighter than the T/A or GTA, you could feel the difference in performance.

Re: Formula production numbers?

I should be picking up the 91 Formula tomorrow around noon. Fingers crossed - Its not perfect, but the engine and interior are completely unmolested.

Its an L98/auto, which will actually be the first L98 I've ever driven, let alone owned - This'll be my 6th thirdgen.

I actually agree, I will only buy a L98/A4 or LB9/M5 car for myself, unless I plan to use it for parts Beyond that there is nothing of value to me personally. I imagine there are others that feel differently, but that's my

Re: Formula production numbers?

JUST got back from picking up the Formula. Its a 1991, L98, WS6 car!

Has been repainted the original black, but is falling off again... Needs a front bumper and the aero wing, but everything else is there and is in nice shape. Seems to be loaded with most of the power options, incl. power antenna.

One big uh-oh tho. The seller mentioned the car needing a fuel pump and as soon as I opened the hatch, I saw the fuel pump sitting there... I knew.... I lifted the carpet on the bump up and sure enough, the sheetmetal was cut and pried open to get access to the fuel pump... When will people learn?

I'll get some pics tomorrow as its too late tonight to get the car out of the enclosed trailer.

I learned from experience ... Actually the car was an LG4/A4, I converted it to TPI
