Help! Need assistance in locating NOS hood insulation

Not but a few months ago, I was able to get a hood insulation from the dealer or from other sources like Eckler's. Now that the AC compressor is fixed and won't spew oil all over the hood pad, I'd like to replace it. I called Eckler's today and was informed that the molded hood insulation that they used to sell is discontinued. My neighbor bought one from them a few months ago and it's correctly molded to the factory spec. All I can find now is non molded. If anybody knows where I can locate one, let me know.

I've already reached out to Modern Day Muscle, Eckler's, Classic Industries, Hawk's and Young's F-body. I'll reach out to dealers tomorrow.

Post or pm me the part number and I'll see if I can track it down. I know of a few other places to search for parts.

Re: Help! Need assistance in locating NOS hood insulation

GMs part number was 14099509.

I've contacted my dealer today and they said the part is discontinued thru them. He then looked up the place that usually buys leftover parts and they show it as discontinued also with none in inventory. I can't remember the name of that company. Wish I bought it a few months ago when I had the chance.

Re: Help! Need assistance in locating NOS hood insulation

That's too bad that they're not offered anymore. I would have bought one to stash away had I known they would be discontinued. My IROC's AC compressor spews alittle oil too. Like Scott mentioned, those were available afew months ago when I was looking for a rarer one for my '83.

I looked everywhere for a NOS hood insulation for my '83 CFI. I mean I searched EVERYWHERE. I finally bought a cheap crappy aftermarket one from ebay. So, one day I'm reading Keith's 4 mile IROC thread here on TGO, and he posts that he mistakenly got a weird hood insulation which doesn't fit the IROC. The one he got from a local Chevy dealer had a strange hole in the center and aluminum foil on one side. I quickly PM'd him, and bought it. Now, knowing that this may be the last OEM part like it - maybe even on the planet - I'm almost afraid to use it.

That's how I feel about some of my NOS parts--as soon as I snatched up rocker emblems, they were removed from MDM's website, so I guess I got the last ones they sell...haven't seen them anywhere else except one pair on ebay going for $230 from the guy I got my NOS third brake light from.

If you happen across any piece, Scott, do PM/post...Mine's in ok shape but it's got some signs of deterioration, expected for 150k miles.

The 82-83 crossfire hood insulation is being correctly reproduced with the foil backing. The 82-84 non CFI insulator is also being reproduced. The 85-92 is available, but it isn't OEM molded. It's just a replacement cut in the same dimensions.

Interesting. Are they correct reproductions? Who has them?

The only aftermarket CFI one I could find had no foil backing, wasn't molded and actually required significant modification to fit.

BTW, what did you do to fix your oil spewing AC compressor?

Yes, it will work, but it isn't correct or what I'm looking for. My car only has 15k miles on it and I'm willing to pay to keep it correct. The factory one is molded and comes in a freight box that isn't folded. Again, this will work, but not for me.

Re: Help! Need assistance in locating NOS hood insulation

I can't imagine the shipping (truck freight) for an NOS hood liner. The box for the last one I ordered was about a 6 foot square cardboard envelope. It's still got my old hood liner in it and is almost constantly in my way.

I've got another hood liner out of my Mustang in the garage. I'd love to toss it but they sell for over $100.

The one I bought from Kieth would have cost $100 to ship UPS, and I only live about 100 miles away from the Ford dealer the 4 mile IROC was at. Luckily, my brother in law had a job out there and he picked it up for me.
