I have an option to buy a 1983 notchback. It has a vin code for the trans am, it has crossfire inj. eng., and is red. I havent seen it in many years. I used to have a HPP subscription in the early to mid nineties and there was an article about them but I cannot find it or any other info on this car. All I can find is info on 1988 notchbacks. Any help on value, production info., etc. would be greatly appreciated.
There have been several companies that offered aftermarket notchback conversions since the early '80s. HPP even did an article on installing one back in '82 or 83. Its not factory so it probably won't add much, if any, value.
1988 is the only year for a GM installed notchback option.

Yup... could be aftermarket, or conceivably, somebody could possibly even have come up with the 88 factory one and bolted it to that car, since all that stuff is totally interchangeable.
I wouldn't worry too much about magazine articles. The car IS what it IS, and HAS what it HAS, no matter what was in a magazine. Either it has a nothback hatch installed on it, or it doesn't. It certainly didn't come from GM with it though. There are no "features from the future" on a production line.

The factory ones were some of the most ugly ones made [you don't want one], why every company who even did fiberglass on the side, made one back then.
one I have is suppose to be from a van conversion company that made only 3, only 2 are accounted for. many similar but none alike, and I couldn't get more then a few hundred less then what a new notch would cost.

Ya, I have come to the conclusion that it is definitely aftermarket. I saw one pic on here of a car that had the same kit but I cant find it again for some reason. It had little flares or cowl on the sides of the notchback. Anyone possibly have anymore pics of this kit or know the name of the manufaturer? The fact that it is not a factory notchback and has a crossfire 305 has turned me off. It is just not worth the investment. Thanks guys for your input!

Probably the most common Notchback that I have seen is the ones that C&C made... They were similar to the Factory ones, but without the ridge down the center. Hawksthirdgenparts.com actually makes duplicates of the C&C, at least I think its pretty close to being the same...
