But thats as a secondary leisure vehicle and with only liability.....no collision or glass or anything. I could see it being a lot higher if it was your main everyday car though.
$10 a month!? For my 86 as a leisure car it's around 170 every month just for liability.

WOW!! Have you gotten into any accidents? My brother is 22 and he pays $6 a month on his 91 as a leisure car. His daily driver is a 2010 focus and I think that costs him about $130 so he pays $136 total for both. My 86 TA costs me about $10 or so just because it's a real TA while my bro's is just a firebird, but I'm also 25 and insurance drops when you hit that age a bit. I would shop around and see what different insurance companies tell you......I use progressive and love them. Maybe NY is just higher because it's a city and more likely for accidents? IDK.......$170 is HIGH for a liesure car thats not a daily driver!!!

Re: Spinoff: What classification of Third Gen do you own?

Interesting that more than 1/4 of respondents have a significantly modified car...but I'm also encouraged to see that over 20% have a stock low mile one as well I imagine, because I did the poll choices poorly, more of us have ones that fall into that category as well...but those of us that have more than 1 pick the last option.

I have 2 stock, low milers, and even I didn't pick that option because of my RS. Interesting responses, for sure...Spring is almost here, so I can get them all out again!

Well, Scott, I know that you live somewhere between Minnesota and Florida, so maybe you have better, nicer roads than I do right now?? Up here in MA, what isn't still covered in sand and salt is a rutted mess from the thawing and rain.

My goal is to pull the RS out by the end of March if we get enough rain to wash the roads down...the IROC and Z28 won't make it out until May at this rate I DID take the Trans Am out for a 30 minute jaunt on a nice, dry day about a month ago. Its the first time I've driven any of my F bods in the winter since '99 or so.

Seeing as how there is no rust underneath, and it needs paint anyway, I figured I wasn't hurting much

Re: Spinoff: What classification of Third Gen do you own?

Being that I'm currently in Orlando, the thought of snow/salt on the roads here is unheard of. It was 80* on Saturday when I took the car out. I was in Minneapolis last year at this time and I very much remember all of the good cars were still in storage. When you live in the south, it's easy to forget that winter is still in full swing up north.

Re: Spinoff: What classification of Third Gen do you own?

^^^Very true. My parents are looking at vacation homes in Sarasota...assuming they get something with a 2 car garage, his '75 hot-rodded MGB (yes, hot-rodded MGB!!!) and 8,000 mile '00 SS will be headed South with him...his Formula would stay in MA.

I told him buy something with a 3 car, and I'll drive the TA down there and use it when I'm there to visit At least then I can keep the miles off of it!

Hey you two, keep it on topic.....especially you Scott!

And yea I feel your pain Jason.....Since I neighbor you here in CT. The roads are CRAP right now from the plows tearing them up. I almost feel bad driving my little civic through all the ruts and pot holes!

Re: Spinoff: What classification of Third Gen do you own?

IMO any mod that can be done so as to enhance a styling, handling, or performance feature of the car and when completed look and work like it's something the factory should have done is a good mod! Concours correct numbers matching cars have just never appealed to me though I do appreciate the effort it takes to build and maintain of these cars. Guess I'm just to much of a Hot Rodder or something, never have seen a brand new car from any of the marques that couldn't be improved!

What impresses me most, regardless of how the car is done (from bone stock to ultra wild) is fit, finish, and detail! Just isn't right to have a totally tricked out and built engine with eye candy goodies all over it sitting in an engine compartment that has rattle can black paint flaking off the firewall, and wires and hoses hangin all over everything! Takes a lot of patience to do a "complete" build, guess when you're young it's imperative to get the engine running and leave all the details til later.... I don't set a time limit on a build, it takes as long as it takes! Got a sign out in the garage that sums it up quite well (my Dad gave it to me many years ago); "If you don't have the time and money to do it right, when are you going to have the time and money to do it over?".

Re: Spinoff: What classification of Third Gen do you own?

Well, when I purchased my 88 Iroc Convertible 7 years ago with a somewhat rare(G92, G80, J65) 4wheel disc brake performance axle set up. I had originally thought if fell in the high mileage stock class however, after I had engine problems and had the engine rebuild, I found out it was a 5.7L replacement engine. Oh well, I love the car and plan on restoring it to as close to stock condition as possible. It at least appears to be bone stock. Currently have the leather trimmed seats recovered with original material as the previous owner didnt know how to properly care for leather.

Re: Spinoff: What classification of Third Gen do you own?

I own the following...

1987 Formula LG4/A4 converted to LB9/A4, moderately Modified. 120K miles
1989 Formula 350 Convertible 1 of 42, 4th lowest known miles of the 42 at 36K Miles. Bone Stock, except for previous owner mounted a strut tower brace...
1987 Formula LB9/M5 Pretty much stock, 120K miles.

Best of all worlds... IMHO

John
