Came across a 90 Iroc LB9 TPI car with factory rear drums .
Its a posi 2.73 and its rpo is J41.
I was under the impression that Irocs with TPI other than convertibles or LO3 had 4 wheel discs.
I checked the rpo codes and sure enough its a factory 2.73 posi with drums T top car.
Is this one just an oddball or was the posi rear drums standard equipment and you had to upgrade from there........

Really ? Since 2004 Ive been through scrap yards and people selling parts off their Irocs and this is the first one Ive come across (other than rs ,lo3,convertible) that have rear drums all the others had rear disc brakes .

Nope, rear drums are pretty common...my 91 T/A LB9 has them as well.

IIRC there was even a shortage of rear discs at one point, so the factory had to put drums in a lot of cars that would have otherwise come with discs (such as WS6 cars), so they're even more common on the upper-level cars than they were originally planned to be.

 

Interesting I didnt know that, since all Irocs Ive come across had rear discs.
Just came across another but had aluminum rear drums,aluminum space saver tire and drive shaft ....it is a 89 tpi Iroc 5 speed

 

Mine is like that too. 1988 LB9, aluminum drums, space saver and driveshaft.
