Engine block color?

Was the engine in an '88 IROC painted orange from the factory?

No. '82 - Corporate blue. '83-92 Corporate Black.

Chevy blocks stopped being orange around 1976. They were then blue through 1982, then black.

Chevy orange is popular because it's bright.

And because it's the color Chevys are supposed to be painted, regardless of what mistakes persisted at the factory.
