Determining Color Combo Rarity

Does anyone know how to research production numbers for a particular color combo by model year?

I've got an '89 Trans Am 305 TPI with the following colors (RPO's from the SPID sticker, descriptors courtesy of RPOcodes.com:

98U : PRIMARY COLOR, EXTERIOR, ULTRA BLUE MET (91)
24Q : MOLDING COLOR, BRIGHT BLUE MET (91)
16P : WHEEL COLOR, BRIGHT WHITE (91)
82C : TRIM COMBINATION, CLOTH, MED DK GRAY (C) (91)
82I : INTERIOR TRIM, MED DK GRAY (91)

Notice the descriptors all have (91) after them, which as anyone can tell from the pics of my car, the molding and wheel colors are obviously silver. Everything else appears to be accurate.

Two individuals tell me that this combo is fairly rare. The seller told me he had to factory order it that way.

It's not too difficult to pull up production numbers by model and engine combo, but does anyone know how to dig deeper?

Thanks!

Yeah, it's so rare that the combination listed above was not available. The 91 listed signifies that the RPO definition was what was used in 1991. GM reuses RPO codes from one year to another and may not be anything close to what you have in 1989. You won't really find any details on the option combinations, but I can tell you that the silver GFX and rims was standard.

We are working on getting the TGO RPO decoder put together based on each year RPO codes from 1982 to 1992. Unfortunately, it's not complete yet, so....

Scott, I know the (91) meant model year '91. I just took a leap of faith and substituted silver where the definitions were obviously wrong. Even the part about Ultra Blue Metallic was wrong. IIRC, my exterior paint color is Bright Blue Metallic, but I don't have the window sticker to back it up.

If I bought all the documentation from PHS, would that be acceptable as a submission towards building the new TGO RPO Decoder? I was thinking about doing it anyway.

Re: Determining Color Combo Rarity

If I recall correctly PHS only has documentation up to 1986. When I used them for my 77 I thought about getting it for my 92 as well. Found out I couldn't due to year restriction. But things may have changed, that was 4 years ago.

Re: Determining Color Combo Rarity

I don't think the (91) means it was 1991,my 86 TA uses the (91)after most of the colors on the RPO code,40U Primary color white (91),72I Interior Trim Dk.Carmine(91)
etc.

Re: Determining Color Combo Rarity

Your 86TA does not use the 91 after many of the colors. The RPO decoder you used uses 91 after many of the codes/colors. The 91 is, for whatever reason, the foundation used for most decoders. When you see a (91) listed after the code description, it is telling you that the code description they used was the code in '91. It may not be the same for your car, but in 91, that was the description.
