i recently came across a 1982 camaro pace car (believed)
i should be picking it up this week if not sooner but what confuses me extremelly is it has every option down to the T of a pace camaro im talking decals faded as in look original all parts look to be original factory equipment because it all shows evenly aged only thing change to the car is it has a Gm goodwrench 350 crate installed but even then all motor parts and pieces are original looking so what im getting at is DID THEY EVER MAKE A HARDTOP PACE CAR???? it is a hardtop that has a sunroof that divides into 2 pieces this is not a ttop car and never has been, has all decals, blue/silver interior, factory wheels fiberglass hood and crossfire intake etc etc etc
i just want to know did i buy a very very good clone or an extremelly rare car?

Yes they did make hardtop pace cars. Not many though. Too bad a previous owner ruined the rarity by adding the sunroof!!

Yes they made hardtop 82 indy pace car replicas. I have only seen a few of them. I like the coupes better then the T-top camaros. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...four-82-a.html
awesome i really appreciate the info!...anyone have a estimate on the hardtop pace cars made versus ttops?

Why not replace the sunroof with another solid roof section, have a body shop do the cutting and welding. Headliner problem? Paint problem? Return on investment problem?Originally Posted by scottmoyer

While you're at it, remove the aftermarket bump guards and have the holes welded up. Other then that it looks pretty good for an Indy.
Check the trim tag riveted to the radiator support. If it lists 26G 16U 16L -- that designates it as a pace car.
Hardtops are rarer, but GM didn't keep detailed production records so nobody knows exactly how many were made with any particular combination of options. That sunroof is definitely aftermarket.
Option-wise, I believe these cars could be ordered just about any way you wanted. I've seen pace cars with crank windows and an AM radio all the way up to power windows, power mirrors, power hatch release, rear wiper, etc.

ill check its true pace car status when its finally in my hands....its been sitting long waiting on a lost title for awhile now but i have hope
I don't believe there is any question that this car is a pace car. It has all the appearance of an official pace car, down to the red striped rims and the pace car specific seats.
i have no doubt either i mean its dead on on every detail and its all period faded as in you can tell it wasnt cloned with in the past 20 years it just overall looks original

I see you are not far from me. I may have looked at buying that very car about 12 years ago... wish I would have, lol. It was in London OH and had a blown head gasket, I don't remember much else about it. Oh, the seller was only asking 1K too. It wouldn't surprise me if the car ended up with a Goodwrench 350 and an aftermarket sunroof. There used to be a lot of folks around here that liked to put sunroofs in Camaros.
basically i remember seeing the car years ago at the hobby shop on the air force base at wright patt....and then i recently found it in springfield...at a shop to get its transmission replaced...well being that the customer left the car to get repaird and its been 2 or 3 years since the shop is trying to get rid of it...therefor im waiting on a title for it because its too solid to cutup or part out and its actually a rarer care with potential
