What would you order?

Everyone knows (or should know) the last third-gen F-car built was a '92 red Z28 350 with the heritage appearance pkg. and red leather seats and interior. My question is if you could order the last third-gen F-car what would you order? A car like this or something really wierd?

Well, this doesn't exactly answer the original question, but if I could custom order any third gen, it would be a 1990 RS convertible. It was the only regular production RS (the B4C doesn't qualify as "regular production") in which you could order a 5.0 TPI but...... NONE WERE MADE!! I'd have the ONLY one. The TPI option was made available only on the RS convertible and only in 1990. How's that for third gen trivia??

I'd have to go with a Navy with Silver heritage stripes Z28 with t-tops and an 82 pace car style blue/silver interior. What can I say I love the blue-silver combo. I know it probably isn't what you're lookin for, but hey that's my dream thirdgen

Well if it were 92, than id order a 92 GTA Black w/ tan leather int, 350, T-tops(Hey I can dream cant I?)A4, CD.

Basically just what FrankieRider2 said but in black, t-tops, and a tan int.

If it were any 3rdgen, than it would be an 84 T/A exactly like mine(blue, silver gfx, grey int, t-tops) but with a 305 HO instead of the LG4, and all the other optional goodies I dont have.

Hmmm... mine's close to being the last GTA every built (still doin the research), but I'd give up the L98 for the 305 w/5 speed, keep the Green Metalic, add the T-tops, tan leather & CD.

Hehe. I paid $1000 for my IROC, $950 for my GTA and $100 for my 86. I don't think your car is currently within my budget

Hey Willie, first off great looking car! Second I've got to find a '90 dealer order guide and check into this TPI RS convertible thing. I thought the only motor you could get with Y86 was the L03 and the LH0, excluding B4C. How did you ever figure out this combination was available?
Now for the weird car. I would've ordered a bt. red RS, heritage appearance pkg. 5.0 TBI, 5-spd manual, F41 suspension (16in. wheels in silver 84P), "base" tan interior 66B, A/C delete, radio delete (UL5), manual windows and door locks and no t-tops.

David,

I only have one source where I got this info, the Camaro White Book. It states, "RPO LB9 (305 ci engine) was standard with IROC-Z Coupe and Convertible, optional with RS Convertible." Examining the production figures and using simple arithmetic, I concluded that all 305 TPI's were installed in IROC-Z's. It would be great if you had (could get) a dealer order guide to confirm this. I've always wanted to know. And thanks for the compliment on my car.

Willie

A 1991 Camaro Z28 1LE 350 coupe...then send it out to ASC myself to be made into a vert. Kinda like that rich guy that has a Firehawk vert he ordered as a coupe then sent himself to ASC.

A TTA would also be in the works. And a 1992 Z03 Z28 vert. And a Firehawk. And a 1990 IROC with every option you could ever possibly get.

Actually...
Originally the Firehawk was ordered thru the regular Production options and an RPO was assigned to the cars, After the inital rush of orders, orders were slow and basically the last 6 or so cars (the color cars and the vert) were actually converted by SLP. The story I heard was that SLP actually took from dealers stock, and then converted them for the dealer. In essence the last Firehawk was actually a convertible FIRST and then SLP modified it to be a Firehawk.

As to answer the question... I would order a Yellow 1988 Formula 350 with black interior, I would order it from a Canadian dealership, and order it with T-tops, and the whole shebang. Then I would have had it drop shipped to ASC to be converted into a Convertible. I would also push to have the leather interior installed too...

John

If I had my choice between a TTA vert and a Firehawk Vert I think I migth take the TTA Vert for one reason or another... I did not like the roll cage in the Vert, it kind of messes up the whole idea of having a convertible.

Re: What would you order?

WOW! This IS an old one; three of those cars on that old signature are gone to the wind now.... I had to narrow my focus somewhat.

RPM, anything would be worth a try if we went back and tried to order a car exactly as we wanted it.

Although all interior colors were offered with all exteriors in '92 on the GTA, I think that Beige interior would clash with the Yellow exterior.... it might be a bit of overkill. That's just me. The only two examples I've ever seen close photos of had the Black interior.... one cloth and the other had leather. I think the '92 in the PMD literature had the Beige leather interior, IIRC. I've got the poster, but it isn't handy right at this moment.

John, somewhere in my PMD dealer manuals stuff I've got a letter/bulletin from SLP to dealers talking about them being able to have Firehawks converted from the cars already in their dealer stock. I saw it recently when I was copying some stuff.

Re: What would you order?

You need to keep in mind that they would not allow any "special" options on the car. I tried to order a black Z28 w/silver Heritage stripes and gray leather. They said "NO". GM/Chevrolet thought the car would be special enough so they would not allow anything other than what was in the Order Guide. I never actually ordered the car that I got through a Dealership. I told the Zone Sales Mgr. what I wanted and he placed the order. They also cancelled my original order for a black car when they entered the order for the red car. Chevrolet was not excited about having to build a Z28 on the last day of production because they typically build "Base" cars the last two weeks of production when a plant is closing.

Re: What would you order?

Polo Green 92 RS with black leather interior, black headlight pockets, Z28 grille, Z28 hood, hardtop, full 1LE package. TTA/GN 3.8 liter ohv V6 turbo LC2/TH700R4/Dana 44 rear from the SLP parts bin. Or (thinking of engines in production at the time) a ZR1 DOHC LT5/ZF6/Dana 44.

Park it next to my TTA and be done with it.

I'd order a 1992 Trans Am Firehawk. I'd take mine in black with a tan interior. Competition package Brembo brakes and 6 point cage too.

Imagine that combination...

Hey, if that one guy got a convertible Trans Am Firehawk, why shouldn't I have been able to get a black hardtop Trans Am Firehawk? If only I wasn't 3 years old at the time...

Uh..an 89 iroc with gold wheels and stripes/decals. L98 with a 5spd and 4.10's. Hard top. No radio. No a/c. Rear seats gone. Two front seats would be tan. And any suspension available. That's just what I would order if it I had it my way.

So true. A friend of mine had a similar experience when he ordered his '92 B4C. He tried to get the heritage appearance pkg. and the order was promptly kicked out. Then he ordered the car with leather seats and someone from Chevrolet zone office called the dealer and wanted to know
why this car was being ordered with leather seats. In the end he got his B4C with leather.

I would order a medium quasar blue metallic 1992 GTA with a 350, grey cloth interior, factory CD, and built to Canadian specs, ie, block heater, daytime running lights, speedometer in km, etc.

I know its not the the original question, but If I could order any new thirdgen it would be an 88 GTA. Black, Black leather interrior, analog gauges, three spoke GTA wheel, and the L98 engine.

I didn't think you could order factory (RPO CC1) T-Tops in 1992 with L98/B2L (350CID) engine.

As for me? Money being no object I'd order a Firehawk of course. On the slightly more realistic side I think I'd go for a Black Formula 350 with a medium dark grey interior and all the options I could have on it. If factory T-Tops were an option I'd go for those but I damned sure wouldn't want the C&C T-Tops.

Re: What would you order?

It would have to be a 1992 FIREHAWK in Bright Red/ Tan interior with the Competition Package. I would REALLY want TWO of them. One to store away and wax every other day and the other to DRIVE IT LIKE I STOLE IT!

In 1991 you couldn't order a T-Top car with the L98 option, BUT in 1992 they gave away the farm and let the T-Tops become an option.

Ahh. OK. Makes sense then. What restrictions were there in 1992 besides the Convertible 350 restriction?

Re: What would you order?

Actually T-tops were available only on the Formula in the later part of 1991 and all of 1992... you had to order the Black "superlight" Trans Am wheels...

Re: What would you order?

It hasn't been, it's just funny seeing the same thread bumped since 2001. More so since it has zero technical merit. Some of these types of threads get locked down right away, and others seem to go on forever.

sure t does, aside from posts like mine, alot of people have stated things like what options would have been available for that car and what options were not but it would be a great thread to see what would be the ultimate thirdgen camaro or firebird , well just my

Re: What would you order?

It is interesting though to see that bit about the supposed availability of the LB9 in an RS 'vert in 1990.

My guess is brochure mistake.
