My 87 Camaro SC restoration

Hi y'all. i decided to make a thread to document my restoration of my 1987 Camaro Sport Coupe. A little history on the car. It was my very first car I got it in December 2000. It went to back up car duties in 2004 when I got my other car. In 2008 I sold it to my best friend. Just last year he called me, and said he can't afford 2 cars anymore. He asked if I wanted to buy the Camaro back? i said Hell ya! It has been sitting for the past year being started up, and being driven around the yard every blue moon I just started up up today, and took these pictures.

Re: My 87 Camaro SC restoration

Are you going to tag it "historic"? With my 87 Sport Coupe, Maryland registration is $51 for 2 years. I have classic car insurance which is another $105/year. Of course, the car can not be your daily driver, and registration rates are going to be different in every state. Just a suggestion.

No it has a normal registration. I won't be using it as my daily driver but once or twice a week I'l take it to work.

Sounds like a fun project with a nice bit of history too. Are you going to restore it to be stock or more of a restore and modified?

Re: My 87 Camaro SC restoration

I want to go to stock with some small mods like a nice stereo, tint, ect. I have an old set of ET 5 spoke wheels I'm thinking of putting on it, but I will most likely stick with the stock steel ones still deciding. Got her cleaned up but it is starting to rain so I can't get any pictures right now.

Re: My 87 Camaro SC restoration

Got her jacked up on the back porch. LOL I'm getting all new tires for her today. I work for a shop, but being 25 miles away I don't feel comfortable driving that far on 8 year old dry rotted tires, So I have the car in the air and put the wheels in my Intrepid and taking them to work to swap them out.

Re: My 87 Camaro SC restoration

I forgot about this thread. I forgot to take pictures, but I have rebuilt the steering replacing the center link, Idler arm, both inner, and outer tie rods. I also adjusted the gear box, and rebuilt the steering shaft using the dorman rag joint. Replaced the front brakes new rotors, bearings, seals, and ceramic pads. And last weekend I replaced the rear axle bearings and seals. Next on the list is replace the control arm bushings and ball joints. And cosmetically I found a new grille, and a nice set of parking lights.

I also rebuilt the Carb. found the one that was on the engine was warped, so I found one in the junk yard 100% OE virgin down to the factory plugs. I rebuilt that one, and the engine runs 1000,000.99% better now.

Re: My 87 Camaro SC restoration

I really need to update this more often. I found a small coolant leak in the corners of the intake so I pulled it and replaced the gasket and adjusted the valves while I was in there. I started truck driving and not home as often as i used to be. I am starting to do a bunch of work on the interior I just replaced all the weatherstripping from hawks their kit is great.

I got the ACC carpet from hawks as well but was in a hurry and haven't got any pictures of that yet. I have some SEM thomas bus grey paint waiting on me when i get home I'm gonna repaint all the plastics. I'll post some pics of that when it happens.
