Project Budget Build

Bout to start workin on my car restoration, try to do it kinda cheap and quick. Wanna get it done at least interior before the next local car show. Sail panels and visors are at the local upholstery shop. Picking them up Fri so i'll put pics up. Got a set of ABS plastic sail panels out of 91 Bird, did these come factory? And I'm usin my factory visors. So far 0$ into it and probably 20 to get recovered. Gonna try to redo and fix my headliner next week/weekend. So I'll have pics up soon

Yea, I am kinda in the same boat. I work two part time jobs, and I will prolly only have about $200/ month to invest in my car. I am young and don't know alot about cars.

Yea, I just joined TGO like 3 days ago, have been reading ALOT of threads. I have a thread running now trying to get info on how to take apart the steering column. I need to fix the switch for the hazard lights. I wish I knew someone in my area that was an "expert" on third gens.

Yes. Early cars used hardboard, late cars used plastic. I want to say the changeover was somewhere around 1990 but it could have been a bit earlier.

Why are you trying to build sail panel speaker boxes?

Re: Project Budget Build

Because of how open and how much space there is in that area and i wanna make an enclosure so maybe tighten up the bass and get more response out of the speaker. Recently did an experiment and sealed just the factory baffle up with duck tape and faded the speaker from left where i had it sealed and right where i didnt have it sealed and the left one sounded alot better. You could hear it alot better plus more bass output

Re: Project Budget Build

Your best bet would be to ask on the audio forum, however I have never heard of anybody bothering. The speakers are designed to be open air, not in an enclosure like a subwoofer.

Re: Project Budget Build

i havent found anything and i kno that, I jus dont like it. I like to make things better but still look factory so maybe fiberglass around the whole baffle and then put it back in?

I need the plastic "armrest thingys" in the rear to be black and mine are maroon. Does anyone know where to get replacements or should I just try to paint them?

Did you cover your sail panels with vinyl. And if so , did you notice a difference in sound?

You could try to paint them but idk exactly how it would turn because i havent tried it with mine. Carquest would be the best place to get the paint, primer, cleaner. Hope that helps
