Nothing wrong with a set of RWLs.

I understand what you're saying, completely...but what you said kinda helps illustrate my point. I WANT to be able to buy something better than G Force Sports...I simply CAN'T, because nothing higher-end is available in this size.

I agree the straight line traction is great...no question. But, do you really feel the handling responsiveness is good? I feel it kinda lacks.

Who else wants or needs an older size/style performance tire? So many thirdgen enthusiasts run aftermarket, larger, wheels. So how much demand is there really? I mean real demand, not just 20 some odd guys on a forum.

Yah, me too. 26 years is long enough to ride around on the same rims. Looking at updating to 17x8's at some point.

I think he's talking about the tire shine, not the sidewall size.

The vast majority of these cars are still driving on stock wheels.

I haven't had a lot of tires on my IROC & GTA, but of those that I have had, I've been thrilled with my G Force Sports. I feel they handle as well as the KDWs I had on the GTA previously, and far better than the Dunlop 8000s that were on the IROC previously. On my Corvette, it had General tires on it when I bought it (trash), which I replaced with Falken Ziex, followed by a couple sets of G Force Sports. I felt that the handling was at its best with the BFGs, which also exhibited much more even tire wear than the Falkens.

^^^Sorry to burst your bubble, but those are NOT the original tires. See the post above with "Eagle GT" tires...you have "Eagle GT II" tires, which came out years later.

I did shine the tires a few days before I took the picture but I have halogen fixtures in my garage instead of flourescents and I used the flash on the camera, so they aren't really that shiny. I like my garage lit up when I'm working on things. Still, I like RWLs no matter.

I have these on my CTS-V and they have about 10,000 miles on them and they are gone! The fronts have less tread on them than the rears! Go figure it's a rear wheel drive car.

Re: Eagle GT's are in Reproduction.

I put a set on a 8000 mile '84 Monte Carlo SS. They're actually pretty nice compared to the originals. They seem to ride a little better; still stiff but better than in '84. It's hard to compare them to originals now, because the originals are harder than rocks, but it definetly looks right and handles like its supposed to.

Re: Eagle GT's are in Reproduction.

Thats good to know. If I had a Z28 with the 15 inch wheels (that was an all stock low mile original car) I might consider putting them on.

I wish they would make reproduction Gatorback tires too for folks that have the factory 16 inch wheels.

I still wish the price of those reproduction Eagle GT's would come down. For a daily driver, I wouldn't want to pay that much for a set of tires. There are a lot of other choices out there that would fit the bill for a much lower price.

Re: Eagle GT's are in Reproduction.

The cost is strong on them. The overall look is right on the money though. I understand that Gatorbacks are next. If they use the compound that is in the reproduction Eagles, they should be a much better tire than the originals.

Thats good to know. I'll keep my eye open for them. Hopefully they won't be $400 per tire.

Re: Eagle GT's are in Reproduction.

i know its an old thread.. but they make the 15" but more collectors 3rd gens have the VR50s... (TTA, IROCS, Anniv edition TA, GTAs etc.)
how many people will buy the 15"? there are some nice Z28 and normal TAs out there that can use them but how many will put the money in a car that is not as valued? lower percentage I am sure.

I wish Goodyear would start making the Eagle GSC again. I still have a set on my GTA, but I probably need to get rid of them just because of their age.

Re: Eagle GT's are in Reproduction.

We had a set Eagle GT's on a 89 rs and found out they are very dangerous in wet weather. Since then its been BFGs. Personally im running stock 16 inch trans am wheels 245/50/16 tires have been limited to picking a certain tire but the best and safest tire i bought for it was Kumho AST set i believe they are. Best weather condition and wear tires i've ever owned. The firehawks were a rougher ride, and the Michelin was scary in the rain. Kumho AST is about 130 a tire

Re: Eagle GT's are in Reproduction.

Has anybody bought a set of these reproduction tires? I know they are very expensive but, these tires were what came as standard equipment on these cars when they were new.

Still would be very cool to see a low mile 100% stock thirdgen rolling on Eagle GT's or Gatorbacks - especially if they used modern technology, modern rubber material yet kept the look the same as the originals.

I didn't have time to order tires online, i had go through a tire dealer in town for it. 130 per tire was what i paid for. there were other tire dealers that wanted 150 per set or more.

My 82 still has the original Goodyear Eagle GT's on it, with the bowling ball caps. With 24K miles they are showing some wear, but have plenty of tread left. They turned 30 years old in September, so as you can imagine they are as hard as rocks.

The car is totally original except for the battery. Now with the car is so old, leaving the OE rubber parts is beginning to amount to a car that looks time capsule original, but I don't trust it to drive around the block. Original only goes so far. So it is time to replace some items, just to keep the car in running condition.

I would love to purchase the repoduction Eagle GT tires for this car, but at $320.00 each, I doubt if it will happen.

Re: Eagle GT's are in Reproduction.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I understand what you mean about the price. That price is sky high. The BFG Radial T/A tires are the choice for a lot of us muscle car folks that want to keep their factory 15'' wheels and want to have a well performing tire.

not really IMHO due to they are solid lettering while eagle GTA have the raised outline of the letters which looks much better I think
wish they had that on tires my size

Does any body know if the BFG Radial T/A tires come in speed ratings higher than S? I think S has a speed rating of 112 mph.

Re: Eagle GT's are in Reproduction.

I can't understand why a company would go through the hassle of creating reproduction tires, then price them so high no one would buy them. I am in the market for a set of RWL P215/65R15 tires for my '83 T/A, but there's no way I'm paying that much for them. I'll probably end up with block whites on a set of BFs. Not my first choice but easier on the wallet.

Here's a shot of my GTIIs when I first got them in 2001.
