92 Camaro white with black stripes and black rims??

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and the Camaro. I just get my hands on my first one. I have been online for hours trying to find out as much information I can on the car so I can restore it. All it needs to get running is a transmission. After hours of trying to track down my car, I landed here hoping to find help. Can someone help me identify my car? Here is what I know:
  • Year- 1992
  • White with black stripes and black rims
  • "RS" on back and front dash with "25th Anniversary"
  • Has a 350 under the hood (not stock).
  • Automatic
  • No spoiler
I will add pictures of it later along with better details. Like I said I am completely new to the Chevy Camaro, AND to car restoration period. Another question would be what type of transmission do I need, and how much would one cost? Wouild it be safe to buy one from a junkyard or Craig's List? How do I know if the engine is a 350 (the guy who sold it to me said it was)? Whatever the outcome, I traded a "beat up"1990 Acura Legend LS with 206,000 miles for this car. I feel like I made an ok decision. Thanks in advance for any help you guys provide.

Re: 92 Camaro white with black stripes and black rims??

All 1992 Camaros are considered 25th Anniversary cars. There were factory cars with stripes, but they were part of a "Heritage Edition". The white Heritage cars came with red stripes only. That doesn't mean a previous owner didn't add aftermarket stripes to a Heritage car. Look for RPO Z03 on the label inside the rear locked storage area. If you have that, the car is a Heritage Edition. If not, it's just a regular RS.

If you want an auto tranny, get a 700R4. Manual, get a T56.

Was the car originally a V8? You can tell by checking the 8th digit of the VIN. If the car was originally a V8, you'd see an 8 for the 350 (B4C police edition only), F for the LB9 (B4C police edition only), E for the L03. The L03 was the standard V8 for the RS. If the car has anything else, it's a V6.

Welcome to the forum.
