WS6 started as a Ram Air model dreamt up by the marketing department in 1996, a long time after the last third gen rolled off the Van Nuys assembley plant floor. No doubt that the previous success of high buzz RPO codes such as Z28 and W30 were discussed in that meeting that approved the WS6 as a model.

Before that year, WS6 was an RPO code to ID suspension, and that's it. Similar to J65 brakes or CD4 pulse wipers. So there's no need to get too excited about the WS6 code on a third gen.

Re: 91 ws6 How rare?

Ok well the car I'm looking at has "WS6 Pontiac Performance Suspension" on the wheel caps. Is this anything special or just another nice looking low mile TA?

Thats the same cap that came on my GTA. I sold the wheels and all to another guy so now his firebird will have them.

RPO codes on my 91' WS6 are on the underside of the utility hatch/drivers side under the rear tire well. Need the RPO code to verify, anybody can slap on WS6 rims, with all do respect. I also have a "Performance suspension" badge where the glove box should be. Mine is not a TA, just a WS6. Performance suspension my butt! She takes corners great, but I hit a pebble and we are a dancin'. I even redid my whole front suspension (down to the control arm bushings and everything above) Didn't go cheap but didn't go over the top either. Should of spent more cash. WS6 = BRICK..........

Re: 91 ws6 How rare?

So is it better to have a WS6 'Bird or a G92 Camaro? Didn't the G92 come w/ four wheels disc brakes, oil cooler, and a limited slip diff?

Re: 91 ws6 How rare?

WS6 and G92 are not comparable. The Firebird RPO that matches best with G92 is R6P.

Re: 91 ws6 How rare?

1) WS6 (from 1987 -1992) included 36mm front and 24mm rear sway bars, a quick ratio steering box, 16" wheels, 235-50 R-16 Tires, special springs and Gas filled shocks and struts.
2) 1985 & 1986 WS6 included rear disc brakes but it was not the case for 87-92.
3) many 91 & 92 Trans Am's had WS6 center caps and did not get WS6... Why? I have no ideas... may have been an error in the factory or a shifty dealer.
4) AmorgetRS is correct, the R6P would be a more similar option, Honestly the R6P was only a 91 & 92 only option. However the G92 was an option on the Trans Am from 1988-1992 and formula on 91 & 92. It triggered the 1LE package.

G92 included the performance gear ratio and some other performance enhancements. On the Firebird, the rear gear ratio was determined by the Engine, Transmission and trim level. The Formula and GTA all should have gotten the same equipment as a G92 Camaro when they were equipped with the LB9/M5 and the L98, however there is one example where it was not the case. The G92 was more or less the trigger for the 1LE on Firebirds.
