4 Wheel disk brakes vs 2 wheel disc brakes
Did all 85 IROCS come with 4 wheel disc brakes? I have a pic of a 85 IROC that doesnt have them.

Rear discs were an option... I've got an 88 with every option except Rear disc for some reason....

There was a shortage of the rear disc axles during production. Not sure exactly when it happened, but count yourselves blessed. Rear drums are a much better setup than those old cast iron rear calipers they used on 88's.
The 89-up aluminum rear caliper setup is o.k. though.

Many people believe that if you have an IROC, it'll be equipped with discs all around, but that's simply not the case.
BTW, though the old-style Delco Moraine calipers have a tainted reputation on TGO, my personal experience with them was good. No issues. I think the key with them is to use the parking brake every time you park the car.

Re: 4 Wheel disk brakes vs 2 wheel disc brakes
I have the early rear discs on my IROC, I was cursing them the entire time i was changing the pads... "you mean I have to drop the LCA to get the caliper off??".... past that they seem to work pretty good. they were barely working when I got it but after I changed the pads I set and reset the park brake a bunch of times and use it religiously now they seem to work good. not sure if I'd trust only them holding the car though.

After reading about the mushy pedal and emergency brake usage mine are getting better now.

Re: 4 Wheel disk brakes vs 2 wheel disc brakes
The pads have adjusters on them, much like drum brakes do, that need to be activated with use, unfortunately GM thought everybody with Disc brakes uses a parking brake. So what happens is the pedal gets mushy and the rear pads dont work very well and stay unused.
My 85 with 30k still has original pads and the rear pads look like new.
