no 145 speedo offered in 1985,, iroc stickers on doors to low,, bodyside moldings are the same color as car ...they were black in 1985 ..

 

Repaint, wrong placement of stickers, paint over door guards and mirror gaskets, wrong speedo, so who knows the correct mileage. I hope nobody reaches reserve or Ill feel really bad for them. Dont get me wrong its a solid car, just not original enough for me.

 

The IROC-Z decals on the doors looks to like they are applied too close to the lower stripe decal. One of the pictures in the list has nothing to do with this car. The picture listing the options says the car has black cloth seats, but the picture from the front and the drivers side shows what appear to be tan seats and seat belts.

And what IS it with people putting those weird, tree shaped air fresheners in these cars?

was the last year for it IIRC or was it 86?

Also wrong radio for a console clock car.

 

The #1 problem with this car is the odometer. It obviously shows 17k miles, but probably came from a car with 117k miles. This car does not have 17k original miles. The condition of the instrument cluster shows me that the cluster is 117k. The condition of the engine compartment and a few other areas look higher than 17k original miles. What this car carries mileage wise is anybody's guess.

Since the repaint was mentioned, the placement of the Tuned Port Injection emblem is incorrect on the rear bumper. I also noticed one of the documents state the car had 16,200 miles in '93 and only 900 more miles today. The car literally sat for 20 years?

 

yeah I totally get that people thought the 85mph speedos were lame and even with how easy they are to make read the correct mileage it seems rather odd that a car still wearing VR50s has that much of a sketchy past... then again I believe the VR50s were still made up through around 98' or so

 

I see those three things, too:

1. Mileage not as advertised - it's a trap!
2. It's yellow
3. It's an automatic

 

I messaged him on ebay. He admitted to me that it was repainted.

So much for the "all original" vibe that he gave off in his description.

seems like 85 to 89. 350 TPI cars have a 145 speedo.305 only show 85
And the clock was only up to 84.So for a less than 20k mile car why isn't
it in stock condition?

 

The clock was put into 809 of the 1985 cars. He has the wrong radio in there too.

Also, when you type in the address on the title into google maps, you get a nice overhead satellite shot of a junkyard.

 

85 irocs didnt come with 145 speedo's ...86-89 did and it didnt matter what motor you had 305 or 350 . so why is that 145 speedo in there ??also the repaint makes it not in stock condition ..

owned irocs for 20 years .. i know these cars like the back of my hand and that 145 speedo did not come in that car ...i had 2 86 305 irocs that had that 145 speedo and have seen thousands of 305 cars with that speedo ..if you do a search on here you can find all the info you need about these cars ..

 

There was a website that broke down things like different speedo styles and shifter **** styles by year, but that website doesnt seem to be working anymore.

The 145 speedo showed up halfway thru 86.

 

correct ...seems most of the 86 irocs had the 145 speedo but gm says it was the later 86's that started having them ..

thats what they say ...it just seems like every 86 has a 145 speedo ..i just looked up 5 original 86 irocs on ebay and they all had the 145 speedo .. im finding it alittle rare to find 86's with the 85 speedo ..anyway to find out when some of these 86's on ebay were made ??

 

Could you still get those highback front seats in '85? Mine is a late '85 with black cloth. My seats are lowbacks with headrests.

The 145 speedo came out the second half of '86. This is published information from GM.

The high back bucket seats were available on cars that didn't have the custom interior.

There is no such thing as a 15" Irock wheel for the Camaros! The 15" IROC rims were available in 1989. The standard 16" rim was '85-'87 with the single groove and the standard rim in '88 was the 15" '82-'87 Z28 rim. The 16" double groove was optional in 88 and 89. The 1990 cars received the 16" as standard.

I asked the seller about the odo and this was his response:

I repleced the speedometer about a year ago. It still has

Lol. I asked him why the address on the title was the address to a junkyard and he said he doesnt have any idea. Also he fessed up to me that it was repainted. Whoever buys that car with the intentions of it being all original is going to be sorry.

 

Wouldnt surprise me its if its a junk yard dog. Nothing wrong with it. But I hope he isnt thinking he is gonna pul down some big dollars.
I like the fact that our cars increase in value but only for the right reasons.

 

I call bigtime BS on this. If he claims the odometer was retained, he is obviously lying. The font on the 85-86 odometers is larger and wider versus later odometers like this one, possibly from an 87+, with the smaller skinnier font numbers.

Compare a authentic 85 odometer and 87+ odometer and youll see the difference in number style.

This dude is a shady seller.

Not only was a 145 mph speedo NOT optional in 1985, it would have been ILLEGAL for an OEM to offer it.

 

ok lets settle.85 mph speedo 60 bux. 145 mph speedo 160 bux..sell that get a wimpy 85 and put back in it so when you hit 90 you dont know how fast you are going. it's not like its advertising low mileage.I says something like 171000.

 

the RPO for the console clock is U35 and it is listed on his SPID.

 

The font for the odometer looks the same to me.

Good catch! One of the pictures shows a blue firewall with a non TPI looking engine.

i suspect alot more than just the later 86's got the 145 speedo ...i think some early ones to ..

 

I sure wish I had one, with hwy speed of 75 in texas its easy to use it all the way up
