was this a special z28

I bought a 1992 z28n in 92 the dealer said the car was a special car that a GM rep would drive to dealer to dealer for display and promotions and after buying it a friend told me i could call GM and find out everything about the car. I did and found out the car had a 5.0 liter, twin catalytic converters, 3.42 gearing, 5 speed, g92 package, heritage package, disc brakes, a hard top and a/c. It was black with red strips from front to rear spoiler, reed leather seats and interior and the rims were silver with red mixed in. I have never seen another like it, close but not the same they dont have the red in the rims. I put a hyper tech chip in it but after swapping back and forth i decide the stock chip ran stronger. I had it 145 mph and still picking up with stock chip, no cut off. it would run. When i traded it in 96 the dealer gave over great retail price i could tell they were interested in the car and the car never hit there lot nor did i ever see it again. When i called the GM number i remember them saying something about the car had things that was not listed on the invoice and the dealer probably didn't even know anything about it. Was this just another z28 or did I have something I should have held onto.

It sounds like you had a 1992 Z28 G92 LB9 N10 T5 hardtop with J65 four wheel discs and the heritage package. That is a very desirably optioned Camaro and it's rare for one to come out like that. On thirdgens, usually somebody gets 90% of the performance goodies and then drops the ball by forgetting something like G92 or J65, or they get all the go-fast options but throw the t-top in for that extra chassis flex...

As for the red wheel inserts, somebody smart on the heritage package would have to say if that was stock.

Regarding the GM Promotion Car status, you would have to have some documentation from GM or a dealership that verified this. Otherwise it's just automotive folklore for the local cruise-night. And even then, how desirable is that? The local Chevy dealer had a promotional Volt and the car travelled dealership to dealership; at each stop, numerous people were given test drives. That devalues a new car by a lot; some new promotional cars (CTS-V, for example) lose their factory warranty. On a 20 year old Camaro it doesn't matter anymore, but it's not going to add to the value unless you have some documentation proving the story.

The red in the wheels was stock...those 16" wheels could be had on any Camaro model with red accents. The only problem with them was, if the car was a daily driver, they turned pink after awhile

Damn shame you got rid of the car...it was a keeper, for sure.

Yes I wished I had kept that one. Thanks for your info. I can't even find a picture of one like. I can find the black and red strips but not the rims and red leather.

Re: was this a special z28

There's nothing truly unusual about any of those options, it's just a nice all around package to have all of them together. Some cars got all the good options, most didn't. But I wouldn't say the car is rare, beyond the fact taht it has all those options and it's a 92 Z28. They just didn't make many of them. It's definitely as close to a perfectly optioned Z28 as you could get, but it wasn't a B4C (those were technically RS'es, though) or 1LE car, and those are a bit more unique as far as options go. They wouldnt be more desirable to me, but they're more rare.

The red in the wheels was standard, but it could be deleted. I ordered mine with the wheel paint delete because I preferred the silver/gray wheels.
