Compnine is Back!!
I saw the post down below that Compnine is gone. Well, 3rdgenparts found that they are back and just responded to the "site is gone" thread. I figured I would announce back with a title that Compnine is back. For those that are unaware, Compnine has information on 1990 + US Camaros and I believe all Canadian Camaros. I do not know the database for Firebirds. They can tell you build date, options and so much more.

Re: Compnine is Back!!
The way Compnine calculates the figures to give a "rarity" is based on many options, options that arguably should not be considered. It's not just with ThirdGens but other GMs.
But you should not dismiss the information Compnine has and provides based simply on the above "flaw". Compnine is not just about providing rarity figures.
If you're missing the SPID sticker for a 1990+ ThirdGen, or Canadian ThirdGen, Compnine can provide you with that information based on VIN. Besides a local GM dealership, that information isn't readily available and PHS and GM Archive don't even provide that information as they only provide Invoice data - data which doesn't contain every single RPO from the SPID.
If someone posts a 1990+ ThirdGen, or Canadian ThirdGen, for sale (eBay, Craigslist, etc.) and you question options it has and the seller does not provide the SPID, you can validate the vehicle through Compnine by VIN.
Lastly, the figures they provide next to options, while it's not complete because Compnine does not have 100% of the records, is probably the most complete data that is publicly available.
Despite not having 100% of the records, and the "rarity" figure to sum up the car, I'm not aware of any other, public, online source that can offer this type of information that Compnine does.

If you really want to know how rare your car is the two things to look at are the total vehicles found and the matches with each RPO. Firebirds are somewhat underrepresented in the data, but if you have a vehicle where the total matches equals the total production for the year (a touch over 90% of model/year combinations) then you can use the total RPO matches as a very accurate representation of how many were built with a given option.
That said, there's another version of the rarity calculator that will allow you to figure out rarity based on the most valuable or unique options and ignore the oddities. That system is currently being rebuilt, so watch the rarity section for a launch date.
I'm glad you're all enjoying the system and I'm happy to be of service if you run into any issues or have any questions.

Re: Compnine is Back!!
That's a great summary of the service. The combined rarity in the middle of the page is mostly for entertainment and shouldn't be used as a reason to double the asking price of your car when it says it's one of a kind. It calculates it based on every option shown, so that means it includes useless options like the build week or "WARRANTY WAIVER."

I'm wondering why a Canadian spec 1982 trans am can be decoded on your site,But not a US spec 1982 trans am ???
And curious to ask can you discuss/explain in anyway why Compnine shut down and then came back ?? Can I assume it had something to do with GM ?

Oh ya your site ROCKS !!!!!

Hey Jason,
I remember a while ago compnine use to offer exploded views and parts lists for most cars. Similar if not the exact ones you can obtain at the dealerships parts counter. Maybe I am just blind but I do not see them on the new site. Are there any plans to readd them or are they already there?
Thanks,
Matt

I'm aware the Trans Am is underrepresented in the data but to be honest I haven't dug much into the "why" of it all. Information is added almost constantly and filling the gaps in the Trans Am/Camaro is always a priority.
The revolving door closing was a series of factors that aligned with Venus during the third full moon.
Really, it was quite a few things with some more pressing than others. Hey Jason,

This is awesome news, I can't tell you how much your site helped me with my job since we only sell GM cars but aren't a GM dealer and don't have access to their records. Kudos to you for fighting to get it back!
I'm sure I'll be contacting you soon to get a dealer account set up again

Is there anybody that does this for '89 Firebirds? I tried my luck at Compnine (just in case) but it came up with nothing.

I learned of an internet archive not too long ago in which I saw thee VERY beginning of TGO back in its hey day. So I checked the archive to see if the parts list and diahgrams where still available. Unfortunately, the links are not too good. If your curious, check out this link,,,, http://web.archive.org/web/201011081....compnine.com/
Re: Compnine is Back!!
Unfortunately my build date comes up as unknown, and my door tag is 100% faded and unreadable.
Does the GM Archive/PHS packet provide a build date? I've always wondered when mine was built.

2,869 GTA's were built in 1991. Mine is 1 of 1.
1,447 GTA's were built in 1990. Mine is 1 of 14.
Not like I really care though. I love them both.
FYI, both are white, beechwood interior, and 5.7L.

The invoice is not the same as the build sheet. There is no known copies of the build sheet stored by GM for ThirdGens. While GM does have copies of the invoices, I've not seen an invoice with a build date. It does contain a ship date and invoice date.
Here is an example of an invoice, which comes from Scott, and does not have a build date:

What a great service!
I noticed the key codes are on the invoice above. when I got my copy for free from GM in the early 90s the codes were on it and then later they were blacked out along with some other info.

Re: Compnine is Back!!
It's too bad, I had all the info saved for my cars, before a hard drive crash. I'm somewhat curious about the RPOs on another car I've acquired since, that is missing the SPID but it's really not worth $5 to find out when I'm going to gut the car anyway in favor of it's new matrix.
I'd imagine any GM dealer should be able to print out the same basic data. Assuming it's in the database and the counter monkey is willing to pull it up and print it.

Re: Compnine is Back!!
I just paid the $5 and I see they do not give you a rarity estimate any more, only the number of vehicles with a given option that are in their database.
If anyone needs a VIN ran, PM me, I can do it 4 more times.
