The VIN derivative is either on the driver's side bellhousing flange (by the exhaust manifold) or by the oil pan rail at the front lower passenger's side (my 3.1 has it by the oil pan). You have the engine block P/N and what is probably the Mexican assembly plant code (all 60* V6 engines built in Mexico).

The A number is probably the internal plant code (serial number or something used during production)...

Let's just say this... The VIN number on my block is 1ML185260, I believe it was a Camaro produced in June (IIRC) of 91 that it came out of. You're going to need sandpaper (don't hit it with a power tool as you may end up going right through it) so you can read it. It WILL be VERY faint after all this time once you clean it up.
