I recently found an 82 Camaro that the owner aquired on a trade and wants nothing to do with the car. It originally had a 305 but now has a 350 with a bad flywheel. Heres the thing: The guy the seller got it from said it was a z28. It has a badge on the dash and an IROC style hood, but it doesnt have ground effects. Were all 82 z28's standard with ground effects? Is it even a z28? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

Sounds like someone started making a Z-28 clone and gave up. Pics would help.

 

Measure the sway bars. That'll be a good clue.

 

What size should they be? The car is close to 2 hours away from me and I don't have any pictures of it other than what the seller sent to me on my phone which won't allow me to upload them. Were all z28s standard with ground effects? Is there any numbers in the vin to indicate whether its a z28 or not?

 

The 82 wouldn't have an IROC-Z hood. It's probably a sport coupe.

They all had ground effects, and the IROC hood did not appear until 1985. Sounds like a Frankenmaro to me without seeing it.

 

Thats what I figured. The IROC hood was the first red flag for me. Is it worth $600?

 

Does not sound like a Z28 to me, If the body is real solid then I don't think $600 would be too bad for a fixer up.
