Lots of questions about the 91-92 z28s...
Back in the day (high school), a class mate had a 1992 Z28 Camaro, 5.7L auto, leather, bose cassette... which was the coolest car in the lot. Fast. cool looking. Looked like a race car with the spoiler/ground effects/hood power bulges. Every body wanted that car! (except maybe the guy with a 1992 Formula, 5.7, factory t tops, black diamond spoke wheels...)
Now many years later, I can finally start looking for a 91-92 z28
paint- have most required repaints by now? Does red fade the fastest/worst? What about black? Does the white paint hold up well?
seats-Do the base cloth seats feel as comfortable as the upgraded cloth? what about the leather seats? any real differences?
Radio-I'm not buying the car for radio quality..., but how does the bose cassette compare to the optional nonbose CD player? does the bose system require converters to switch to a different Headunit with cd?
are the z28 wheels different offsets front and rear?
How hard is it to change out a cracked dash?
and last but not least...
Do the rear drum brakes feel or perform that much different that the rear drum brakes?
THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT!!!

Q. - paint- have most required repaints by now? Does red fade the fastest/worst? What about black? Does the white paint hold up well?
A. - It mostly depends on how well it has been maintained. A low mileage garage kept car is your best bet. Red probably does fade the worst but any color won't look good if its been baked in the sun for many years.
Q. - seats-Do the base cloth seats feel as comfortable as the upgraded cloth? what about the leather seats? any real differences?
Its personal preference, I've always prefered the cloth over leather for some reason.
Q. - Radio-I'm not buying the car for radio quality..., but how does the bose cassette compare to the optional nonbose CD player? does the bose system require converters to switch to a different Headunit with cd?
A. - There is a little difference but neither sounds very good by todays standards. If you want high quality sound go with an aftermarket stereo and speakers.
Q. - are the z28 wheels different offsets front and rear?
A. - Yes, front and back are different.
Q. - How hard is it to change out a cracked dash?
A. - Very easy, only takes a few minutes.
Q. - and last but not least...
Do the rear drum brakes feel or perform that much different that the rear drum brakes?
A. - Rear disk brakes perform a little better but its not that noticable. In my opinion, in everyday driving you would never know the difference. If you autocross I'm sure you could tell. Disk brakes do look better though.
Hope that info helps. Good luck in your search, its getting hard to find these cars in good shape. I looked for several months before getting my 91 Z28. The factory paint wasn't great on these cars. Don't be afraid to get a car that could use a paint job if its rust free and has no body damage. A car that could use paint will be much cheaper and if you get a good quality paint job it will look better than factory and hold up over time.

Q. paint- have most required repaints by now? Does red fade the fastest/worst? What about black? Does the white paint hold up well?
A. I'd say the White ones hold up better than black, red, or Teal, out of all I've seen with original paint white holds up longer before fading.
Q. seats-Do the base cloth seats feel as comfortable as the upgraded cloth? what about the leather seats? any real differences?
A. Standard cloth seats suck in my opinion, I don't like the design the headrest is one with the backrest I prefer the deluxe interior seats which have the square headrest separate which can adjust or come off, and Leather is a luxury, no difference other than being Cooked and having a sweaty back in Summer, cloth works fine just don't eat or drink fluids inside other than water because you'll ruin the Upholstery.
Q. Radio-I'm not buying the car for radio quality..., but how does the bose cassette compare to the optional nonbose CD player? does the bose system require converters to switch to a different Headunit with cd?
A. The Bose radio was nice on these cars with Cass or CD and since I'm not big on how many watts or how much $$ or how much bragging rights I can get out of a modern stereo system like pioneer or Kenwood or Sony or Rockford subwoofers I Love the Stock Radio, even tho most nowadays have been swapped out by new owners, whenever I see one that still has the original radio in it I sigh and wish I could buy the car, unfortunately mine had the original one replaced but its ok because the Owner before me didn't put a new age stereo he replaced it with a newer Camaro stereo ( 1998 ), which still looks stock ( has the same design ).
Q. are the z28 wheels different offsets front and rear?
A. Yes, that's why when you rotate the tires you can't put the fronts to back or back to front you have to take it to the shop and have them take the tires off the wheels and put the tires that were on the front wheels on the back wheels and the tires that were on the back wheels to the fronts. It sounds like a bitch to do and unnecessary waste of time so I just replace them with used ones and do the alignment. But if your willing to wait you can do it right.
Q. How hard is it to change out a cracked dash?
A. Very easy just remove the bolts right under the dash lip with a socket wrench, be careful because their hard to replace if they fall out and you lose them.
Q. Do the rear drum brakes feel or perform that much different that the rear drum brakes?
A. Rear discs are better than drums because they have better braking performance over drums especially down steep hills or in wet weather, they dissipate heat better, but weigh about 20 pounds more on each side of the axle than the drums setup, trays the only con, and discs cost more than drums.
