All steel except the odd hood. You could always grab a magnet off the fridge to confirm.

The 3rd gens are not like the 4th gens-we have all steel besides the bumper covers, spoilers and stuff like that.

And don't forget the 82-84 Z28 SMC hoods.

Re: 3rd gen materials?

Hoods, Fenders, Doors, Roof, rear quarters, and rear decklid are all Steel... The exceptions are as follows:

82 Trans Am (VERY VERY RARE) Aluminum Hood option, also used as an option on 91-92 Firehawks, and race cars. Some Race cars had stealth Aluminum front fenders (rumor only)

82-83 Camaro Z28's had a Fieberglass hood, not sure if it was all or just some.

Front Bumper support there was a run of Aluminum pieces used... not sure what years, all later cars were steel IIRC.

Just an observation..................................

Every unmolested 82-83 Z28 I've ever seen in person had a SMC (Sheet Molded Compound = Fiberglas) hood. And I do recall seeing an early built 84 Z with one.

GM had problems with the 'Glass' hood and apparently switched to steel early in the 84 model production run.

John - Thanks for the info in your reply. Very informative.

Re: 3rd gen materials?

I'm so sorry if my question is in wrong category or was asked before. I need to know the name of material used in rear quarter ground effects in 90-92 camaro. On the inner side of part I found some details:
VT NO 2052
PT NO 10118432
MAT GMP L/P <---- material name?

I need to find name of material used in production of ground effects. I heard it could be fiberglass but it's too flexible but not like urethane plastic. I want to repair it.
I apologize for any problems :/
