On the Akron Oh Craigs list there is a 87 GTA gray, T-tops and he says it has a 350/auto in it. Say it was built in Canada and that is why it has a 350 with T-tops as the US built cars only had 305's in them. It's loaded, but has cloth seats. Sorry I can't post the link here at work as CL is blocked here. So is this a true statement or is it BS? Also I don't recall ever seeing a gray GTA.

It is true that you could get a 1987 GTA with the factory 350 and factory T-Tops (CC1) if the car was a Canadian export (Z49) but it was N/A for the GTAs staying here in the US.
In 1988, I don't believe there has been any records to show that you could get a factory 350 and factory T-Tops in Canada like you could in 1987. Additionally, it was N/A for GTAs staying here in the US.
1989 was a year where you could get a factory 350 and factory T-Tops here in the US.
1990-1992 the combo was again N/A on the GTA.
The Formula, being a lighter car, is slightly different. 1991-1992 Formulas could get that combo if ordered with the PW7 style wheels.

Sweet Thanks guys, Trust me If I had the space and extra cash I would go look at it tonight. I love the looks of the car, well all but the mirrors. I don't think $8500 is bad for that car since he says it's has around 50K miles. I do love the color as well. Well for now I will stick with my TA.

The early version:

The later version:

That's pretty much the difference, although I found the 1986 cluster (early tach version) I have has an orange warning segment in the temperature portion just under the red segment:

While my 1988 just has one red segment. Not sure if that's a difference due to the engine or the clusters.

Some of the early GTAs received those mirrors as well.
The Pontiac bulletin linked below, from GTASourcepage, states how those paddle mirrors would be replaced with the DG7 mirrors.
