german trans am info

I have been on a search for a 91-92 trans am i finally found one but the problem is it was built in us but sold in germany. I found it in the states from a guy that bought it from a us soldier stationed in germany who bought it new. What differences are there between us and german sold cars. What would i have to do to it to make it street legal in the us. Are they built to run leaded gas? I would pass on it but ive been looking for months and have had troubles finding 91-92 trans ams.

Re: german trans am info

Cars sold overseas to Servicemembers are sold thru the Overseas Car Sales service promoted and backed by AFEES or Military Exchange services, I myself have bought 2 cars ( A Mustang GT and a Sierra 2500HD)from them and both are US specs even tho one was delivered to The country of Greece the Other Kuwait, both are now here in the states with me and not one thing is different except the build sheet states on both "Overseas Export Sales", I think the cars that go to Germany have different mirrors and have to have rear yellow turn signals which T/As in 91/92 already have. If it has a Catalityc converter it runs on unleaded.

Re: german trans am info

They did get the dumbo mirrors. They did get the base rear lights and a remote headlight height adjuster switch. My buddy has a EU 92 GTA and it came with those. It might also have a tow hook welded to the frot crossmember that's something they do in Germany. Does the RPO sheet say "EXP" ?

European radio?

Re: german trans am info

I agree with Leo. My '92 was sold through Overseas Service and also shipped to Germany before coming back to USA. It still has the original style, with the common delamination, Trans Am/GTA tail lamps and it has the non-paddle mirrors. I don't know if the mirrors were ever changed out to paddle mirrors and then back to non-paddle mirrors but I suspect it may not. My gauges are not metric measurements.

Also, mine did not have any RPO code to designate it as an export. That may have made the difference and been a difference between the Overseas Service Program and others that were exported and sold outside of the USA.
