Trans Am/ Firehawk Aluminium Hood the same
just curious if the early trans am aluminium hoods were the same as those used on firehawks. I'm guessing not; seem to recall (from reading on here) that part of the reason GM stopped offering these was the poor fitment
curious is all

Re: Trans Am/ Firehawk Aluminium Hood the same
They used the same mold as the steel hood. So i've been told by someone "in the know"..
Fits the same as a steel hood and are stamped with the steel hood pt number . I know this for a fact.

I looked up the t45 code and it comes back as the aluminum hood, so does anyone know how many of these were made or could any of the 83 pace cars have come with them. The pic of the "A" stamp is form the listing

It was a very low production option.

Re: Trans Am/ Firehawk Aluminium Hood the same
I'm afraid it was a cocktail of hearsay and confusion with the z28 fibreglass hoods which had seperation issues; which I appreciate is not what we need in the history section.
Part of me is curious about why GM stopped producing these/ did not market them more aggressively. Does anyone know what the original option price was?
And then for them (or a remanufactured variant) to appear on the firehawk some 8 years later
You hear about the GTA being overweight, so much so that t-tops were not available and yet they had low weight panels that had already been through the red-tape process.

Re: Trans Am/ Firehawk Aluminium Hood the same
GUESSING HERE::: I would think the aluminum hood was probably around $100 or so up-charge, it could not be much (in today's Dollars it seems cheap, but in 1982 $100 was quite a bit... Not found anything but that would be a guess...
In 91 & 92 SLP was asking something ridiculous like $2500
