Whats the value of an all original WS6 w/ 18,000 miles?

I just picked up a completely stock 89 formula (5-speed manual trans) with 18,000 miles for an incredible price, how much do you think this car is worth if its in good condition?

Re: Whats the value of an all original WS6 w/ 18,000 miles?

the best way to tell is to get an indapendant apprasil , if you look it up in kbb you wont even be close ,if its a mint car , I've heard of some third gens being worth as much as 25k depends on what you really have there . get more than one estimate tell them its for ins purposes. and you want a second opinion.

Original condition is always key to a car being worth the most. If it has any aftermarket thats still ok but sometimes it just hurts the face value of the car but it should still be worth a good chunk of change! You need to post some pics of it

Re: Whats the value of an all original WS6 w/ 18,000 miles?

It's worth EXACTLY whatever you paid for it; otherwise somebody else would have paid more.

Pretty simple stuff. Economics 101.

Glad you were able to get a car you like for a price you were willing to pay.

Appraisal for insurance purposes has nothing to do with what it's worth. First thing the appraiser will ask is what value do you want it to be. Unless it's a total rustbucket, he will write it up for whatever you think. And you can overpay the insurance company lots of extra premium because if you take proper care of your baby, you'll never need to collect the benefit.

Re: Whats the value of an all original WS6 w/ 18,000 miles?

the best way to tell what your car is worth today is to look up and see what people are asking for your type of car ...

if its a tpi car i would guess it would bring around 10,000 ..just my guess without looking up what the formulas go for ...

Not necessarily. They didn't really know what they had and let it go for cheap because the previous owner passed away. The family knew the car was going to be taken care of because I told them about all the work I have in my Camaro so they were happy to cut a deal and get rid of it.

Sounds like a nice car and if it looks and runs like you say then I don't think $10k is out of line. Right now it seems there are alot more ultra low mileage Camaro's on the market than Firebirds and TA's.

I'm not sure what it's worth, but I must assume you are asking about value because you are thinking sell.

Come April in Michigan, you won't have any trouble moving this thing. It's got ALL the right stuff.

I would have guessed about 8 or 9K, and that's a 5.7 with less miles so that seems about right

Re: Whats the value of an all original WS6 w/ 18,000 miles?

Why all the focus on the "WS6" for thirdgens. All WS6 is for our cars is suspension. If it is a Formula (like the red car is) then it automatically has the WS6 suspension. On a 4th gen it might mean something, for our cars its not a big deal and does not add any additional value to the car.

A lot of people on TGO talk about it as if it is something special. And yes, you mentioned it in your title as if it is a factor in the value of the low mileage car. Then it is brought up again as a reference point on another car.

Not knocking you, but it is brought up a lot on TGO. BTW, nice find. Be sure to take good care of it.

A 1987 IROC with 20,000 on it bid up to 12,800 on ebay recently so I think 8-9k is a bit low. If you're willing to sell it for that though, PM me. Thanks!

I agree that 10K is a bit low now. if its mint or could be brought to mint with those miles and a 5 speed... 5 speed for the year are a lot rarer in 89 than the number with 5.7 auto and t-tops i bet

Not True,a car with the WS6 package has more value than one without,we sure paid for it and it wasn't cheap!!!

True that! It was a big deal when I bought mine. It's one of those "you had to be there" (the eighties, that is) things.

At the dealership, yes. Resale value, no so much. If you buy a new car you are going to pay for floor mats. That doesn't mean it will affect resale value. Honestly, how many people here on TGO even really know what the difference between and WS6 and a non-WS6 thirdgen are?

On T/As you had to pay "extra" for WS6. On GTAs and Formulas it was standard.
I don't know how camaros got things set up.

Sorry to get off topic, but I paid 14% in '85. Car would've been over $25,000 if I didn't pay it off early. My brother paid 19% on a motorcycle.

Hope we don't see that again -

Wow! Congratulations! Those TPI Formulas are tough to find with a 5-speed, especially with low mileage! To the best of my ability to determine (GM production numbers on these vehicles are difficult to ascertain, so a lot of it is word-of-mouth), Pontiac only made about 42 that year with that powertrain combination (5.0L TPI, 5-speed, dual cat exhaust, etc.). And we've each got one of them...!

Here's an online valuation resource that I've been watching; I don't know the extent to which Hagerty researches their values, but it's at least a starting point.

305 TPI and M5 is a highly sought after Combo among enthusiasts, and With 18,000 miles, you can't go wrong and it demands more money, and 1989 is a special year on its own, if it were my car with 18,000 miles and the body was straight same as paint and interior and everything worked on it I'd ask for 15,000

Probably alot more than you think... Especially if they aren't newer members or non T-Gen owners.

Judging by the way that the term is thrown around on TGO, I seriously doubt it.

Anyone who has read their center caps should know the difference. It says WS6 performance suspension package.

Not all cars with the WS6 Option had center caps with WS6 logo.

1987 GTAs, which all came standard with WS6, is one example.

Trans Ams is another example where you might find the Firebird center caps on WS6 equipped cars. Mine is one of those cars as well.

1989 was a year that had plenty of factory T-Tops with the factory 5.7 cars on both Camaros and Firebirds.
