Block casting numbers? What year
Ok so i just finally got to a point at which i can see my casting number on the driver side rear of block and it said this gm 5.7L then it looked like it said a letter that looks like a G OR something similar, is the last letter to tell you the year it is, or what. Because i was told it is a 86 350 tpi from a iroc-z and then i looked it up and it said there were only 50 made and blah blah blah but i mainly would like to know which year i have, as i was told the 86 motors dont exsist anyways, thanx

Yes, no 350s in any 1986 F-body that ever made it into public hands. Stories about test mules are largely irrelevant; car manufacturers do all kinds of things behind closed doors.
It doesn't answer the question of what year your block is, but there's nothing useful to be done with that information anyway. All you need to know is that it's a 1 piece RMS 350 block.

L98 HP ranged from 225-245 at the flywheel. The earlier L98s had slightly lower HP having 9.3:1 compression before moving up to 9.7:1 compression. 10 HP was just from the duel cats in the later cars so it looks like they only got a 10 HP gain from the added compression.
