88 IROC medium grey L98 G92 high miles. Should I buy it?
I've been debating on buying this car and looking for a little input from more informed members.
Its a very clean 1988 IROC Z medium grey L98 G92 car with 189k miles. It has a small amount of surface rust, and the wrong hood. Other than that its in pretty good shape considering the miles. Should I buy it? Thanks

Depends on the price really. How does it run? hows the tire and brakes? How much work does it need and is it worth it to you? Any pix?

yea a pic would be very helpfull what state does the car live in ? you say a little surface rust. check the spair tire cubby, and the batt tray, and an overall look at the undercarage , what do you plan to do with the car ? daily driver, project , ground up rebuild? these questions all play a factor in a potential purchase.

Pics and price, otherwise nobody can give you any meaningful advice.

Sorry he's asking $3,500 obo. It would just be another IROC to enjoy and sink money into. I just think it would be cool to have a G92 car. I'll post pics as soon as I figure out how. Thanks

Looks like a cool car. Needs a new hood, passenger door body work and paint and some other items. Lots of miles, though. If no issues like rust or major mechanical, could be a good buy if he's negotiable.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of those hoods. But he's negotiable and a new hood and paint I'm ok with. Its the high miles that concern me. Although he claims it runs and drives great. I know medium grey is a low production color. And G92 intrigues me. Thanks guys

The G92 option on a gray 1988 IROC makes it a desirable car. If that paint is original it also has the DX3 stripe delete option. There aren't too many grey 1988 IROC's around in the first place. Thats one of the few that I've seen with the DX3 option - if the car has it.
If the mechanical parts of the car are in good order this would be a good car that you could get and drive and have fun with and not worry about racking up a lot of miles. If its the original drivetrain you should be prepaired for a rebuild in the near future.
I know our cars last a long time with good service but at this point after 25 years of service and all those miles the motor, trans, rear end, and suspension are going to need some work.

I believe its been repainted, the headlight shrouds are not black as they should be. I also don't remember seeing DX3 in the rpos. However it did show medium grey so that's correct. And G92 of course. I'm ok with rebuilding the motor, Trans, etc etc since that's definitely I'm the near future. I'll believe I'll make an offer

Are you in this area? I've eyeballed that ad a few times. Been listed for a while now. Too much work to do on my own car to worry about another so I've never looked into it.

That sounds good. It would be cool if you could get it. Ha ha low or high milieage nice to hear some 1988 IROC's are still out here. Ha ha I'm partial to 1988 since thats what year my car is.

I'm in St.louis, kind off in the same boat as you. I'm completely rebuilding my 89 IROC ATM but I love the medium grey IROCS. I actually just sold an old Jeep to a guy in Fulton on friday

It is a nice looking car, but man do I hate that hood. The car is sweet and I do like the gray IROC's but IMO the price seems too high, but if you have get him down say a 3rd of the price then I say go for it.

Going to join the crowd here and say that hood has to go.
The car looks decent, hard to say from the pics. As with any third gen, rust is the enemy so give it a good look underneath. Given the high miles $3500 seems a bit high to me, but certainly looks like you could throw a few bucks at it and have a nice driver.

The hood would be the first thing replaced. This car would look ten times better with the correct IROC hood. What do you guys think a good offer would be on this car. I mean considering it needs a new hood, paint, and before too long a rebuild on drive train and suspension. This is my dilemma

This is just my opinion so others may disagree. If the underside is nice, tires, brakes and stuff like are are good and the rust is not bad my comfort zone would be about $2200, maybe 2500 if it runs and drives really good. Myself I would not go over $2500 no matter what.
