Re: Tune Up after 5 years

I always use the OEM plugs and then get whatever wires I want. I put the AC Delco copper tip's in my TA with Taylor Street Thunder wires, MSD cap&rotor, AC Delco PVC, and fuel filter. I put a K&N air filter in the stock air box. A coolant flush, trans service and rear diff service is a good idea as well, but if the trans has never been serviced sometimes when you done one at high miles it can make problems.

Re: Tune Up after 5 years

i would run A/C delco plugs that it should call for it by the book. and dont buy junk oil or oil filter. as far as trans, i would do a trans flush, then a trans service. (service is mainly for the filter change, and flush is mainly to remove all old fluid with new fluid, including torque converter). k&n air filters are always nice but very pricey. fuel filter i would go with delco as well. cap rotor, wires, same. i would try to find a cap with brass nipples terminals though

Re: Tune Up after 5 years

No need for an expensive red distributor cap that doesn't provide any benefits over a quality regular replacement. Cap cannot be seen under the TPI cover anyway. You want a Standard DR468 cap and DR326 rotor.

Change the serpentine belt, it's not on your list.

Don't bother with the pitman arm, it will be in the same condition after one million miles as it is when brand new. It doesn't have any moving, wearable parts.

Re: Tune Up after 5 years

I'm not a fan of the trans flush. Just change the filter and add the lost fluid. The dealer flush system moves fluid backwards thru the trans and can put junk in places it shouldn't be. (seen it to many times).
Its kinda like changing fish tank water, change a little bit at a time or the fish may die.

Indeed. Removing pan will only drain some of the fluid. If you change it, then drive for a day, then drop the pan again, you will have changed 80% of the fluid.

Re: Tune Up after 5 years

I'm glad this thread has come up. My 92 camaro has basically sat for the last year since I haven't had the money to give it the alignment and new tire its needs.

Before that it ran like a CHAMP, but Since that time the engine has started to run pretty rough. I'd ideally like to get my car into a state of daily driver reliability, which honestly it always was... but it does need a little loving atm.

Re: Tune Up after 5 years

Here is a good cap and rotor kit, should be under 30$ http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...6_385786_2267_. Then bosch plugs, and I think autolite plug wires IIRC, I can look it up when I get home
