Need appraisal help!!!
Re: Need appraisal help!!!
There is no such thing. An appraisal requires someone to look over the car from top to bottom, and check the mechanicals. A website or internet forum cannot provide valid pricing sight unseen. If it's rough, then it's probably worth what you paid!

Re: Need appraisal help!!!
holy ****, dude! did you buy a beat up '86 Camaro as an investment?
and as scottmoyer said, an appraisal entails paying a professional to inspect a vehicle and determine its worth. looking up a Kelly Blue Book value (which will only go back 20 years btw) is not the same thing.
also, if the car is in really rough shape, chances are you didn't get a steal even if you got the car for free.

Good Luck.
Re: Need appraisal help!!!
That pricing shown on NADA is invalid. It's showing a low retail value. That value is still high based on what they consider to be low retail. Per NADA's site,
"This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim and interior would show signs of normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration."

A third gens only value is sentimental. Especially a run of the mill, average, every day Camaro.
There are exceptions, but they are far few and in between.

Re: Need appraisal help!!!
i find that a third gen is at it best when thought of as a platform. it is also best to take pleasure in the fact that they are overlooked.
my neighbor took me for a ride is his 1967 427 Corvette the other day. its a nice car, but with its rarity, prestige, and value, he didnt want to really get on it. plus, with those 4-inch wide tires, those aren't as built for speed as one might think. "very nice car...cool...thanks."
then i took him for a ride in my aluminum headed, mildly cammed Formula 350. get on it as hard as i want...let him drive it. she can get down. WS6 suspension, good brakes, killer sound... now he wants to get a 3rd Gen.
its more fun to run a 3rd Gen hard than it is to pamper a C2. OP, if your getting into this to make money, find a new hobby.
also, i find that a car like Orr-Rock's (or whatever) is a perfect example of how these cars can and should be used as a platform.

Part of the beauty of these cars...there is no "that didnt come with it from the factory, so it is not going on there.". Its more like "that came off a what? Slap it on!". My car is a prime example of that.

Re: Need appraisal help!!!
Anyone know a site I can appraise it at?
Whatever it says, THAT'S its "value".
These cars are NOT "investment grade". That's not why we like them. Anybody that buys one thinking that it is, is in for a rude surprise. Their virtues lie elsewhere than that kind of "value"; specifically, one of the best things about them is, THEY'RE CHEEEEP TO BUY.
If it's in "pretty rough shape", nothing in KBB or anything of the kind, is going to help; "guides" like those are for cars that like soccer moms and yuppie marketing flunkies and such would buy. "Rough" cars aren't in the scope they cover.

Re: Need appraisal help!!!
I bought mine because it is the car that I always wanted in high school. I HAD to have a 5-speed car and it had to have t-tops. I found one in my favorite color in good shape with low mileage so I paid more than the average price for it. I did it because I had the money and was willing to pay for what I wanted. People like me who have a sentimental attachment to these cars will pay for a nice one. But I think most of the folks interested in these cars are younger people with a few grand to spend. They want a car they can fix up to their particular liking that is cheap. I don't think these cars will ever see the prices that the first generation cars saw. I represent the generation that loves these cars kind of like the boomers loved the 60s cars. But I would never pay more than mid teens for one of these cars even in pristine condition. The only investment reward they bring is a smile to your face.
Re: Need appraisal help!!!
I didn't buy it as an investment. I just asked a simple question looking for a simple answer. The guy is in the military, was in a bind and so I bought his 86 Iroc with 67,xxx miles for $500 so I highly doubt my bill of sale is gonna tell me the value of the car. Just needed a little insight. I thought (and still think) it was an awesome but considering the manufacture date is the same month and yr I was born, it only has 67,xxx miles, t-tops, power everything, and runs great. So there's the story behind my question. Have a great day...

And yes it needs a little work but it's all cosmetic. The car went from the factory in van nuys ca straight to Fairbanks Alaska where I live. The car was only driven about 3 months out of every yr of its life and sat in a shed in the winter.

Re: Need appraisal help!!!
You never mentioned ANYTHING about the actual car. All you said was "Just bought an 86 Iroc. It's in pretty rough shape but I got a steal on it. Anyone know a site I can appraise it at? " . there is a HUGE difference between "How much is my rough car worth?", and "I just paid $500 for a 86 IROC with 67,xxx miles on it. What do you think?" and put in some pictures for people to see. see the difference?
When you mention "rough" and these cars, it generally means rust bucket, neglected and a billion miles on it.

Re: Need appraisal help!!!
It is apparent you are new to forums. This forum is THE best on the web for these cars. But, if you ask a vague question, you will get answers you wont like. Try to be as specific as possible. Oh, and fill out your information (car, trans, etc.) [User Cp > Edit your details] so people know what you got.
what you put in post #11 about the car, should have been what you put in post #1. Saying you bought a Camaro in rough shape, could mean its perfect but has a couple paint chips or it was left in the rain forest for 15 yrs with the doors open.
We are all here to help each other out. But, you have to ask the question to be answered.

Re: Need appraisal help!!!
I edited the above posts to maintain the content and remove the attitudes. Everybody needs to be aware that their responses might be taken differently than their intent. It happens! Also, some of us here have answered these questions a millions times and we need to learn to answer new requests with less hostility.
3rdgenborn, this question comes up regularly by some that think the price they paid for their car was below average and the only reason they post is to get a price to sell it. We are more of an enthusiast board and are willing to help anybody, but because of the few that have taken advantage of our resources, many will have a "short" response. If your plans are to keep and enjoy the car, welcome to TGO. If your plans are to get a price to sell it for profit, be cautious how you post your questions, or you will get an attitude from some.

To the OP, for what it's worth, had you added some pics and some details about your ride, you would most likely be able to get a more accurate approximation of value from the members here than from some stupid Kelly Blue Book.
