Help a guy make up his mind!!
Help a guy make up his mind!!
I need help! I am going to add another third gen Z to my stable. I am looking at early cars. I have a cherry original 82 with no t tops, a reworked, original style 83 with t tops, and a low mileage 86 IROC with t tops on my radar right now. My current 92 is a hardtop, but both my original 82 and driver 88 models were t roof cars. Please talk me out of t tops on my next ride! I love them, and hate them. Leaks, squeaks, and rust all go hand in hand with t tops, but you just can't beat the look or fun factor. On the other hand, my 92 hardtop car is still nice and tight and dry after 120k+ miles. Help me make the right choice!

If your married, your wife will make up your mind. If your not, then get them all and decide which ones to weed out. Good luck, Lol

Low mileage IROC with T-Tops.... Life doesn't get any better. IMO
Buy a new ' T-Tops Weatherstrip Seal Kit ' and you'll be good to go.
The only reason I would not go with T-Tops, is if I was going to put a High H.P., with mind blowing Torque.
But... I may be bias about T-Tops, as I've owned my t-top Z-28 for the past 29 years, and I live in Phoenix Arizona. Not much rain or snow to cause any rust or leaking problems.

How about a convertible? If I ever bought a second third gen, that's the route I'd go.

I am against t-top cars. Like you said, leaks, squeaks, and rattles. I'll bypass the fun factor in favor of a dry, tight car. Both third-gens I've owned have been hard top cars, oh and you don't have to deal with that musty smell either.

I have owned both and loved/hated both too lol! If it was my decision I would go for the t top car, put in sub frame connectors to control the flex, and drive into the sunset! There is just something about pulling those panels off on a nice summer night and cruising.

Re: Help a guy make up his mind!!
I say "E" all of the above. His problem is to acquire one of two. He already has the hard top so get a T-top and then a vert; problem solved. He thinks he has to stop at his next choice but unless he dies (hope not) he will make his choice and then time will go by and he will want another accomplishment. Since he has a third-gen already and still wants another and is a member of this site he will never be satisfied just like all of us. I have had many third gens and still want a triple black GTA, 89TTA, Firehawk etc. Look 5 years down the road and what do you see; another third gen.

I guess it really all depends on what you want the car for? Will it be a DD in the weather, or will this be the go to car for a nice cruise when you have good weather? Good luck!! Keep us informed on which way you decide to go!! You are gettin an early third gen either way, so its definately a win!! Love those early cars!!
