Is it possible to have a non dimpled 87 wheel that's not a welded 2 piece? I sold a set to a guy on ebay and now he's claiming that one of them isn't a welded wheel. A little background, this guy kept trying to get me to lower the price and when i dropped it a little he bought them. Then he took 2 weeks to pay and only after I opened a non paying bidder case. I think he's trying to scam me now and get some of his money back

Re: GTA wheel question
AFAIK there were 2 styles
86-87 - non dimpled
88-92 - Dimpled.

Not sure about the specifics, but those are the only 2 castings. I guess I did not know they were welded or not welded...

Whether they changed the design exactly on the advent of the 1988 MY or not I do not know, it might have been a slightly early or late changeover, but the 1988 MY changeover is consistent to when the change appears to have taken place.

That part I know. These are non dimpled, but the guy is claiming that one of them is not a welded 2 piece wheel but a 1 piece

Re: GTA wheel question
Unfortunately I do not know... I was under the impression there was the early then late... I did not know about the welding, not even sure where to look. Furthermore, when you put it on the car, could you tell? Especially if they are the non-dimpled ones...

You'd never know the difference. IDK why he's so insistent about a welded wheel

Re: GTA wheel question
The only thing I can think of is maybe he wants to cut them and change the width or something...

If it was me, I would tell him he is free to return the entire set for a full refund for the wheels. Of course he has to pay for the shipping.

It actually sounds to me that he is a cheapskate and he is making anything up to complain. Was there any mention about them being a 2 piece welded design in the ad? If not, then he got what he got and he can return them, otherwise go away.

That's what I was thinking too.

Re: GTA wheel question
The early non-dimpled GTA wheels were a welded 2-piece design. Not really sure why the buyer would care if they are or not, though. It's not like there are any visual differences besides the spokes being non-dimpled.

Re: GTA wheel question
The problem being is the buyer is stating that one of the wheels is a non-dimpled one piece design, which I find hard to believe.

Re: GTA wheel question
I went ahead and gave him some money back. The reason he was so concerned about them being welded is that he's gonna have em cut and the offset changed. He specifically asked if they were welded and I'm not sure I looked at em all. Lesson learned.
