So, people have been asking me why I've been putting up a couple of my cars for sale?
Well, here's the reason. I bought another 3rd gen. It's not a perfect car and will require a bit of TLC. I won't get it for another week or so, but here are some older pics of it when it still had it's original Gatorbacks and exhaust.

A couple of paints scuffs, looks like it's had a heater core failure sometime in the past which stained the carpet. Current owner had 24# injectors installed and a Magnaflow exhaust. Those Magnaflow exhaust tips have to go.
And certainly some other surprises when I get it.

What makes someone hack off a factory 7k mile exhaust for a loud muffler and stupid tips? I guess Ill never know...
Oh by the way, those black floor mats look like I need to buy them off of you for my car.
kidding.

I need to decide if I will keep the Magnaflow but add factory looking tips, or replace it with a factory system.

Awesome! You got your 5 speed vert!
I had seen a white one like that for sale, think it had a few more miles though.. In the 20s.. Could have even been that one..
Cars that come sight unseen from long distance always have things that are better than you expected and things that are below expectations (that looked better in pictures/videos).. (But you know you still probably would have bought the car..)
You can't really expect paint to be too flawless on a 28 year old car.. The front bumper covers and spoilers can spider crack even in climate controlled garages and even never being bumped. The flex additive they add now is much better than what they had back then.. Time and oxidation too just gets to the finish too. Depends on storage situation too.
I have a Magnaflow on mine too.. I don't mind it.. The tips are some other aftermarket chrome tips.. Don't mind those either..
I think this car sounds awesome.. 5-speed verts are very hard to find.. Seems like only maybe 3 pop up per year in the whole country..
The interior looks to be in very good shape.. Should be very little wear for 7k miles!
You're lucky to have an 89 vert too.. They actually make almost all the replacement parts for those of you need them!
Congrats!

Congrats bud!!!! So happy for you that it worked out, what an awesome car!!!
As a side note, I didn't realize that guy was the one with the car, I recognize his garage and the black vert in the pics. He also had a very low mile red '91 1LE a while back.
Keep me posted when it arrives!!

Charlie, I do remember seeing that one f.sale before. We all know that we have keep it a secret about some cars that we want but can't buy right away. My White 90 Iroc Z 5 speed ragtop was one. I would like to keep it, but it going up for sale real soon to help get the next Camaro. Get r done for the Camaro fest at the end of May. If I still have my 90 Vert 5-speed I am going to bring it to the show. JIM

As the story goes.....
This car was originally bought by a short Asian woman from California. She didn't like driving it much because she had a hard time reaching the pedals, (I swear I'm not making this up
), so she mostly parked it. So in 2004, the collector who's pictures I'm using, bought it from her and cleaned it up, but still never drove it or even titled it. In about 2013 he sold it to the person I bought from. Here's the text from the 2013 eBay listing:
1989 Camaro IROC-Z Convertible with only 6390 miles and a 5 speed stick-not many around as nice as this one.Built at the Van Nuys plant in sunny California and delivered to Biddulph Chevrolet in Santa Rosa.
This car stayed in California in Castro Valley until November 8 2004...That's when I purchased it with 6362 miles showing on the odometer all put on by it's very first and only owner on dry California roads.
The odometer now reads 6390 miles ...So in the last 9 years this IROC has covered all of 26 miles....some of those were from the transporter to my home....The remainder were to my local chevy dealer in 2010 for the introduction of the new Camaro-they wanted one Camaro from each generation on the showroom floor and they felt this was the perfect car to represent the Gen 3 cars.
If you wanted an IROC convertible and didn't pull the trigger-here is your second chance... it has all the usual IROC options -with a window sticker of $21,543.00 you could say this one is loaded-everything works as it should and the little bit I have driven this car there were no issues. Oil has always been changed and Sta-bil in the gas tank and very secure dry storage.
It's getting tougher to find IROC's that have not been cut up or have 150,000 miles on them. This car is just as it was delivered with the exception of the battery and fluids-window sticker included....check the pictures it even has the rubber bumps on the doors from delivery.
Check out the pictures and let me know if you have any questions.....I can help line up a transporter if needed.
Thanks For Looking............................

Beautiful car. You have a fleet of IROC's that we are all jealous of. Congrats! I'd hold on to that car. You would be very hard pressed to find another car like that. As others have said 5-speed drop tops are hard to find.

chazman: That is just flippin' awesome. 1989 was the pinnacle year for 3rd gen development, and you got the most highly coveted (because it's the most fun to drive) manual transmission convertible. And an ultra low-mileage copy to boot. Hearty congratulations are in order.
Don't worry about the condition. I've bought a 39k mile car sight unseen and it turned out better than I expected. What could possibly be wrong with a 7k mile car? Maybe a crispy clutch because it was driven by a short Asian woman that couldn't reach the pedals. But that's ok, it can be fixed.

Nice find Charlie, I figured you had something on the back burner and a sweet spot '89 model to boot! I agree with what was said about being pleasantly surprised by the PLUSES you will discover once it arrives, I know I was.

....ya know it's been interesting watching TGO evolve. When I joined, I wasn't really in a position to evaluate TGO. Over the years, I watched the quality/value of the average post drop quite a bit. Maybe us lifers were still coming into our own, still planning, and maybe less doing, and the kids buying $1000 beater thirdgens were running rampant. ....these days it seems that the quality is back up to where it belongs! I see LOTS of people owning multiple thirdgens. A good number buying up the good quality, valuable survivors. Lots of people asking worthwhile resto and mod questions. Lot more discussions about "factory original", and proper engine building tolerances, and a lot less about spray paint and naked lady mudflaps. It's a good time to be a thirdgenner! To those of us who've been here over 10 years, I'm glad we all stayed. To the others, glad you're here! To the newbies, you're here at the right time! LISTEN to what some of these guys have to say. The technical knowledge and experience here is second to none!
...and thanks to Chazman and short Asian ladies!
Sorry Chazman....didn't mean to booger up the thread with my opinion.

BTW, he was the third foreign buyer interested in it. I guess international collectors/dealers are looking for 30+ year old American cars since the import duties and taxes are very cheap compared to newer cars.

Here it is getting picked up on it's way to the port in Miami. I got full asking price for it, but I ended up giving the exporter $150 for his "trouble" as a go between and to make sure nothing soured the deal.

After several delays with the shipper, it's finally on the road!
I'm so glad my IROC is there to class up the trailer!

Here it is with a couple of it's brothers in 2012:

The collector who owned it 2004-2013 has literally sent me a couple hundred pics of my IROC-Z while under his wing as well as of many of his other cars. Simply an awesome collection and garage!
That red/red 1LE only has like 500 miles on it, if I remember what he said.

That truck looks familiar! My blue convertible came from Florida too.

Congrats Charlie! Well done!
I would love to grab one just like that myself, eventually. I've never driven a third gen convertible, though...what's the cowl shake like? At least I won't have to worry about t-top rattles

My '92 'vert was surprisingly rigid, since that's when GM started using structural adhesives. I expect the '89 to be less so. But it does have 118K fewer miles on it that my '92 did.

Re: 7K mile, '89, IROC-Z, 'vert, stick, LB9
Car came in today. I was at work, so I called my son and he met the driver. The car was as good as I had hoped and worse than I had hoped. What I mean by that is that this car was preserved in an impeccable pickled state from 1989 through 2013. After that it was owned by someone who apparently had no idea of what he had. Various scuffs, chips and poorly done paint touch ups were all around the car. There are also some gray mystery spots staining the paint. No idea what those are. I'll fix them all however. Some thoughtless mods by the previous owner as well. Too bad I didn't buy it from the collector who owned it pre-2013. Oh well, it's safe in my hands now.
We had close friends over tonight, so I couldn't get into the garage until about 10:30.
Even though the car was in an enclosed trailer, it was still dirty. At 11:00 PM I did what anyone else would do. I washed it.

At midnight I figured I'd take it around the block.

I ended up at a nearby industrial park and wanted to see if it could lay down some 11s. It can.
Steering felt funny. I came back and checked the tire pressure. 25 PSI all around. I turned on the compressor to pump them up. Wife came in to yell at me and remind me everyone is sleeping.
Turned off compressor. Luckily there was enough air in tank to finish the job.
Convertible top training starts tonight.

I hate it when the edges flip up. Furthermore, the replacement top on my '92 was of higher quality than the factory ASC top on this car. I found that interesting.
The Magnaflow exhaust sounds pretty good. Does it sound better than a factory N10? Not to my ear. But has a nice tone. Those big *** exhaust tips HAVE GOT TO GO though. I hate them with every fiber of my being. For those of you who like them, my apologies. But for me, it feels like someone is hitting me in the forehead with a ball peen hammer whenever I look at them.
A good detailing starts this week. Goodnight, guys.
