"V.I.P. Plus Program"
I was looking through the invoice for my 91 GTA and noticed that on its own line on the invoice was the "VIP" plus program option. I forget the RPO code off hand for it.
Does anyone know what this means?

I vaguely recall that it was a "customer satisfaction" promotional campaign, where you paid money up front, then when you bought your car in for repairs, you'd get a free rental. I think free roadside assistance was also offered, probably some other amenities also. How much did it cost? If anyone has any info I'd like to hear about it too.

YOU GUYS ARE PRETTY GOOD....
The VIP Plus program was indeed a Customer Satisfaction-oriented part of Pontiac's selling philosophy.... if memory serves, the RPO for it was Y11. It is listed on my car's window sticker, but there is no price notation for it.... I believe it was a standard feature for most GTAs, as well as on other high-end PMD models.
My red '88 GTA has this option, and to my understanding it was mainly geared to customers who had come into the dealership and special-ordered their cars.... unless the dealer actually specified it on the car's order. It was all geared toward ensuring a customer's satisfaction with their purchase.
I still have my big white envelope with the "VIP PLUS" on it and all the forms inside of it. It was a packet of information that went with the car, bascially laid out for a customer to go through their car's pre-delivery phases along with it. There were checklists and categories listed and the servicing/checking personnel checked off the car while the owner had a chance to take in all the festivities. you could actually see the time, date, and name of the technician(s) who PDI'ed each particular car. It was a kind of "Pontiac Pride" thing, I guess, at dealerships. My GTA's forms have a few blanks on them, though.....
There was also free roadside PMD assistance included for the duration of the car's warranty period; evidently the VINs were registered as the cars were built for reference. In addition, coupons for discounted services were included for GM dealers.... tune-ups, oil changes, brakes, etc.
I can't comment on the "money up front deal" since I didn't finance my car through GMAC.... but I did have a free rental for the car.... and even used it a few times. But I also bought the Major Guard 6 yr/100K warranty on my GTA, so the rental may well have been part of that.... I don't recall.
Hope this helps.

Cool info but that's wierd that my GTA doesn't have it especially since my GTA WAS special ordered by the buyer, oh well.......
What years was it Y11 because I show Y11 as being:
Y11 - RING GEAR, 10.50, IN, DANA (S.P.O.)
Can you tell me what year the RPO meant one or the other so I can update my RPO to reflect it? Thanks.

By "money up front" I was just guessing that it was an available option that you would pay for like any other option on a special order car. The only reason I have any recollection of it; is it seem's like Earnhardt's car had VIP plus on the hood or trunk on it at one time.

Hey thanks for the responses everyone.
I will have to check the RPO code for my VIP option later on, but I do remember that according to my invice it was only an $18.xx option.
Thanks for the all the help though!
