History / Originality Got a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!

Two items of question...

First off, I was wondering - How rare is a black interior in the Camaros? My 1992 RS had a factory all black interior (looked badass) and I yet to see another.

Also, there is an early-mid 80's convertible Camaro in town here where I live. It appears to be a Z28 based on the fact that it has the gfx on it. Its a really neat metallic orange. The engine is garbage considering how much oil it burns... Odd thing about it, you ask? The covering for the top looks custom or rare. When the car's top it down, the back end behind the seats looks like a C5, the way it waterfalls and has the humps behind the seat backs... Any ideas? It looks somewhat like this: http://www.vettepics.com/images/2000/2000red1.jpg

Black interior is unusual but not rare... I've pulled 2 black interiors from 91's in the past couple years.

The convertible is a two seat roadster, search the board and you'll find quite a bit on them.

If it has its original paint, then it is an '88 since that was the only year that orange came stock on a thirdgen (and I think only on the Camaro, not the Firebird?). Every two seater conversion I've seen myself has been an '82-'84, which suggests to me that it may be a custom paintjob.

Thanks for the info.

Any word on how rare the "roadsters" are?

Roadsters made in 82-84 ... I think there were only about 200 for the entire 3 years... I think the majority of them were Z28's as well

I think they're beautiful though, I love 82-84 anythings, especially when they're the Z28's hehe...

Do a search, they were made at least from 82-85, probably 86. They were built from coupes, berlinettas, Z28's, firebirds, T/A's, etc... they were converted aftermarket, any body could send any fbody to the company and have the top chopped. Considering how many have shown up on ebay alone in the last three years I wouldn't consider them rare at all, and not really sought after.
