RPO code Questions
rpo codes
So I finally got around to checking out the RPO codes on my car and it left me with a couple of questions
1- there were 3 codes I could not find NOD, 1HV and 629
2- it has 2 color codes 74Q molding color flame red metallic (91) and 74U primary exterior color victory red (91). What is the difference in the 2 colors?

Re: RPO code Questions
Oh, well that's easy... NOD is Night Optic Device, you know, night vision. Cool huh! 1HV means you've got one case of the herpes virus. Sucks dood. 629 means it's #629 of 629 made. How sweet is that!
Ok, now that I'm done having fun... That n0d is a zero. I'm not sure what it means, and don't feel like scouring over the books to find out. Make sure you're searching for a definition for N ZERO D and not N O D.
Codes that start with 1 are usually sales packages. Again I don't feel like going to the books right now, but it's not anything terribly noteworthy.
629 is probably a color code. Notice there are a couple other 62X codes. 62 is probably your interior color code, or a trim color code. I don't know it off the top of my head, and well, you know, the books are like 10 feet away and I have things to do...
74Q and 74U are just like the 62X codes. 74 is the color, U and Q designate the part. The definitions are hokey and don't match because the definition list just used two different "marketing" names. The "(91)" means that definition is specific only to 1991, so if you don't have a 91 it doesnt apply anyway.

Re: RPO code Questions
so, if the color codes are the same (from what I've read they used flame red on Pontiac and victory red on Chevy) then why put them both on there? and how could they put a 91 RPO code on an 87? the reason I'm trying to figure this out is because I'm going to be buying paint soon and want to make sure I get the correct color. And yeah, I knew it was a Norwood car, just didn't realize that is what the N0D stood for. this car, from what I can tell, has been in Cincinnati its whole life. It was purchased by my step father 29 years after it was built less then 10 miles from the factory.

Re: RPO code Questions
The code isn't 1991 specific, the definition is. GM likes to reuse codes, so when they printed one list of definitions they just happened to put the 1991 definition in the book. For whatever reason that note "(91)" has made it into several of the RPO decoders online.
It really doesn't matter what name they used for the color. When you look up a part for the year car you're dealing with, the parts will list the RPO code they match.
You don't want to use the RPO codes for paint codes anyway. Notice at the bottom where it says "WA L8748 U8748 62D"? 8748 is the paint code. L signifies the Lower half of the car, U the upper half. 62D is your interior color code. Take that 8748 code and use it to order matching paint.

Re: RPO code Questions
From my reference:
NOD: ASSEMBLY PLANT, NORWOOD, OHIO
1HV: COMPONENTS OF WS4 TRANS AM OPTION(PONT)
From an online source:
629: SEATBELT COLOR, LIGHT SADDLE
I'm not sure about RPO 629; my '87 has the same RPO and my seatbelts are saddle.

Re: RPO code Questions
that's awesome guys, it's one thing looking at the car and seeing what everything going is but it's such better seeing it all on paper and and understanding exactly what was ordered.

Could anyone know where I can find a reliable source of info to decode the RPO's for my 1991 Firebird?
