Anyone

Sirs,
does anyone have a copy of the Old Hot Rod magazine article "shadowboxing" on how they modified the Lg4 engine. I just want to compare notes on what they did and what I'm doing.

Re: Anyone

I have the magazine with that article somewhere-IIRC it was 9/82,done on an '82 4-speed z28-the CCC setup was ditched and in it's place went a holley carb and distributor with aggressive advance curve.Forget what was done to the exhaust. They kept the stock ultra mild cam as I recall and I think they got 220 RWHP out of it,probably would have gotten another 25-30 HP with a cam upgrade A primitive but decently effective hot rod effort back when "computer"engine controls were the enemy

Re: Anyone

There is a lot you can do to wake up an LG4. That is old skool tech there and there are plenty of ideas. A cam, heads, and a rear axle like a 3.73 would do wonders for the seat-o-the-pants-o-meter

Re: Anyone

OKfoz,
So far I've got a 260h cam, and 3.42 gears and posi going in there. I've just got to get some Shorty headers to finish off the 3" exhaust, and I'm good to go. I ordered the shadowboxing Hot Rod issue today, so I can have a personal copy of it.

Re: Anyone

The 96-98 Vortech Heads I hear are pretty hot, and inexpensive. Unfortunately they are limited to something like 490 lift, so you have to machine them and get these special valve springs to accommodate higher lift.

Not necessarily. Give Alex's Parts a call. He has kits so that you can run a higher valve lift without machine work.
Here is a link: https://www.alexsparts.com/valve-spr...ssure-vsk4h50/

He also has 2 other kits for HYD ROLLER with increased seat pressures.

Great to know... Unfortunately I will forget by the time I get around to doing the mod.
